Vegas Baby !! Is Pawn Stars Worth the Time ?

Morning,
Leaving Next Fri. for 9 days in Vegas. No Man trip this year, doing the Fandamily thing. 8 days in suite at Mirage. Wife's Dads 75th Birthday and our 5th Wedding anniversary...Returning to the scene of the crime! Will need to find lots of Non Gambling/Drinking things to do with two 13 year old boys.
Anybody been to the Pawn Stars Store?
Worth the time?
Where is it?
Card Shops? Where?
Can't remember, is there a Wet N' Wild?
Thanks
Neil

Hoover Dam is always a great bus tour! Also, the Grand Canyon would be awesome if you can make it there.
There are some dry lake beds near there that you would have a decent shot at finding a meteorite in. Guess that isn't really a family thing though.
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.

Easily worth spending all nine days at the pool at the Mirage
Oh, and while walking up and down the strip, and one of those Tahiti Village timeshare people tries to cut you off and get your attention, do yourself a favor and punch them in the face.
Thanks everybody for all the great ideas!!

BTW, I just got back yesterday from Charlotte for the 600. Great time but I am dragging today. And my sunburn hurts. I only put sunscreen on my ears and the back of my neck...mostly so I wouldn't be a redneck. LOL.
When you get there you will be DISAPPOINTED. The place is a lot smaller than what it looks like on TV. There were fast food wrappers and a milk shake tossed in the parking lot. Full of video games and other electronics. The 45 minute round trip probably saved me $500 by not gambling but it's 15 minutes of fame is going fast.
The Subway sandwhich ad placement in ther episode when Chums and Hoss were trying to lose weight was bogus.
We enjoyed the Titanic exhibit at the Luxor. They have a 3 pack deal where you can go to 3 for the price of 2 basically. Many good attractions like Bodies, Titanic, CSI crime scene, etc.... We didn't have time to do 3 so didn't go for the deal.
We also both enjoyed Jersey Boys. It's the first musical I have ever liked. Great deals on tickets through Vegas.com
Last time we were there we saw Zumanity and did not particularly care for it.
Pete Rose and Gordie Howe were signing at Field of Dreams but I am not much of an autograph guy so I did not go.
I have heard great things about the Grand Canyon tour. Being there so long I would definitely do the day trip there.
Have fun!

The gourmet dinner buffet @ Aria was good, especially if you like seafood. Maybe check that out.
The Red Rock casino in Summerlin has movie theaters and a great bowling alley.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
I'd consider checking out Zion and Bryce National Parks. It's an easy drive north toward St. George, UT, you'll make good time on the interstate. You can also view the Grand Canyon from the north rim, which not many people do. Bryce has a very nice Best Western right there...conveniently called Best Western Bryce Canyon. I was surprised to enjoy a very decent steak in their restaurant. The hoodoos will impress, especially when the sun is at the right angle.
If you go to the Grand Canyon via the southern route, I wouldn't venture much beyond the El Tovar hotel, which is the starting point of the Bright Angel Trail down into the canyon. Gravity loves you going down, coming out ain't too funny, especially if you only went in with two snickers bars and a thermos of water slapping your leg for about 20 miles. Can we say STUPID!!. Forget the burro thing, they've been booked for at least a year. Wife and I hiked to Phantom Ranch in one day, dumb, very, very DUMB. The canyon will bite you if you are not prepared. If you just have to go, perhaps as far down as that little green place you see waaaaaaaaaay down below will give you enough of a thrill, if walking behind about 20 burros once in a while doesn't do it...the trail is indeed very narrow in places and well worn from literally 10s of thousands who have gone before you, thus a trail dust does get kicked up for your lungs to enjoy. Make no mistake, it's a thrill, but you better bring plenty of water and pace yourself. Wife and I went in about 7:30 AM and didn't see our car again till almost 11PM, and that in darkness...not cool. Then we had to drive 60 miles to Williams AZ, where we all but died for 2 days trying to recoup.
I would encourage any Cirque show, either Ka at MGM, the water show at Bellagio, or check out Treasure Island's show. Check out this website www.cheapovegas.com, it should give you some idea of what's going on when you'll be there. If you're feeling really froggy and want to see the lowest of the low casinos, a brief visit to The Western is in order. I would not eat there, and only have bottled water. You'll know why when you get there. Check out Wynn, an easy walk from the volcano...Wynn just drips with elegance, I could play blackjack in there for untold hours.
Sadly, you won't see Danny Gans. Consider a trip to the Voodoo lounge atop the Rio...there is a dress code, but basically dressy casual should do it. The view from their open air patio is to be enjoyed with someone special and perhaps sipping a Jack and water.
The eye candy is everywhere...that's why God invented sunglasses!
Enjoy.
I think the Cheapovegas website will provide links to other shows in town.
What you NEED to do is check out who is signing at Field of Dreams those 9 days and see if anyone you want to sign will be there.
Also there are random slot tournaments hosted but sports figures who usually sign for free but I would have no idea how to track them. Actually missed Jim Rice by about 20 minutes.

<< <i>I went to the Pawn Shop last December when I was out there. It is a little less than a mile from downtown, in a somewhat unpleasant neighborhood. I went to it in the morning with some other guys so I was not worried about walking there, but with a wife, kids or older people I would not advise walking.

Most pawn shops are located in the shady part of any town you visit. Just by the nature of their business I don't expect to see them next to the local Tiffanys. The only exception I can think of is the Pawn Shop on Colorado in Old Town Pasadena, and even then I believe at the time it was started that was the shady part of town.
I did see an episode last night where they bought a war bond from 1775. What surprised me is that 3 or 4 fat slobs from the store got their paws all over the document without wearing gloves. I was surprised that the 326 year old piece of paper didn't disintegrate from the cheeseburger residue on their fingers.
That had to be set-up.
let us know how it is.
