Just one more way Ebay scr*ws you............

Here is a new one..........can only have 1 opened dispute out of every 200 sales or you lose your power seller discount .

Sounds like no big deal correct??

Heck I have 6,500 100% so no problem correct??

Wrong...........I sell a lot of the same items over and over and at least every quater or so not uncommonly I get some newby buyer with typically with less than 5 feedback who sees "His" item.........the one he won, relisted and he panics and he proceeds to notify interpol, NASA, Paypal, Homeland security, US Postal authorties and he files a dispute................after which he sends me a shrill email usually full of threats about cheating him out of his $6-$10.

After a couple of frantic emails I get him calmed down then I have to explain how to close the case but none the less, even when it is closed it gets still gets counted against me.

Ebay will do everything possible to make you lose that measly little discount they give you.

Ebay su*ks so bad...........6,500 sales........100% feedback and I hate them.

You know your business is facing long term problems when your biggest users hate your company................

I won my case of the $675 dollar chargeback a week ago and i am still worked up over the whole ordeal. Most ebay issues in my opinion are caused by buyers with less than 30 feedbacks. I have only blocked one bidder over the years but if i continue that will change although i hate to do it.

Heck I block a bunch just based on the questions they ask.

If I'm selling a PCGS MS/PR 69 modern and they ask something like "Can you assure me there are nor blemishes, rubs or other defects on this coin because I really want a perfect example?" I answer politely no then imediately block them.

  • I had a guy win 2 auctions for coins, he paid separately so he got charged $4 shipping for both items. Since I combine shipping on a couple of items won I sent him a $4.00 refund the next day and he filled a claim on me stating that he had won two auctions from me and once he received them he didn't like them so we had agreed to cancel the transaction and he would ship the coins back and I would issue a refund. Problem was I had just gotten paid and shipped the coins out the next day and had never spoken with this person.

Come to find out it was another seller who owed him a refund so when he got the $4.00 from me he thought the other seller stiffed him so he didn't even bother seeing who the seller was and he filed a claim on me image I was able to resolve it with Paypal but it still counts against me image

No, in this case somone is trying to buy a 70 in a 69 holder and is likely to keep returning them until he gets one he likes. --jerry

That is an assumption, and it could be very incorrect as I doubt you know the party involved.

I may not have worded it correctly but I do frequently block people who are clearly looking for MS70 perfect coins in MS69 holders.

    Just trouble waiting to happen.

I also sell a lot of stuff that I describe as "100% untouched, perfect, absolutely new in original box"........those get the questions that ask....................................."Is this really new??"

The one joy I still get from Ebay is by blocking stupid people.

    Yes.

If that PR69DCAM has ANY blemishes at all (which may have kept it out of a PR70DCAM holder), then the seller lied!

if the buyer doesn't give you a negative or neutral, then they nail you on the DSR's with 1's or 2's, or now a new option just open an INR or a SNAD and bingo top rated seller status and 20% FVF discount gone (just what ebay wants). As one person said sellers are the only Targets on ebay.

plus i just took a survey ebay sent me and low and behold to me they are looking to make more changes, almost like we will penalize you if you don't offer Free shipping & insurance, I don't mind patting the buyer on the back and saying thanks for buying off me, but i am not going to knees and kissing/sucking up to buyer after 30+ years of retail I can say without a doubt the customer is NOT always right and as someone else said my only joy anymore on ebay is adding these great customers and scam artists to my BBL.

3900 positive 0 negs 100% feedback 4.9,4.9,5.0,4.9 dsr, and I am going to lose my top rated seller status because of a couple idiots with 0-50 feedback. Thanks ebay!

Ebay please give the sellers back the ability to give negative feedback to the buyers. JMHO image

the buyer always has the ability to return the coin up to 45 days with paypal and up to 6 months to a year when using a credit card no matter what even if the seller states as is or no returns accepted. The buyer when using paypal or credit card has all the power.

I am really surprised when it comes to selling bullion say 100 oz of silver for 18 an oz i win the auction on sunday night pay for it sunday night and the seller ships it monday I get it tuesday and on wendsday silver drops to 10 an oz, on thursday I open a SNAD claim and demand a refund, on friday LOL I am shipping back 100 oz of silver and on sunday I am buying another 100 ounces for 10.00 an ounce.
I am surprised this does not happen more often.

Honest buyers that have some knowlage about how things work will look at your 100% and the number of feedbacks and be very happy to deal with you. Lets face it ebay has no choice but to be buyer oriented. But you would think they would have a abiterator with the power to remove a unwarnted negitave feedback and not charge you for the service if you are right.
Give the laziest man the toughest job and he will find the easiest way to get it done.

The new policy where, in addition to feedback, DSR rating averages, and individual 1s and 2s, any opened PayPal disputes will now count against eBay sellers, and only 0.5% is required to penalize your TSR status, search placement results, and eBay Stores subscription rates.

Note: this is any and ALL opened disputes, not just those that are eventually escalated to claims. Also, even if the buyer voluntarily closes the dispute OR the seller ultimately wins the dispute or claim, it will still be counted against the seller.

eBay perceives a buyer opening any dispute for any reason whatsoever as dissatisfaction with the seller.

Of course what the numbnuts at eBay don't realize is that for many buyers (especially newbs), they only ever initiate ANY communication via PayPal disputes. For many sellers, the first communication they get from a buyer is when a PayPal dispute is opened.

This is a further attempt to winnow down the number of "Top Rated Sallers" and auto-downgrade seller store subscriptions from platinum and premium to basic, thus increasing eBay's coffers without advertising that they are doing so.

I personally am not listing any mew merchandise on eBay, and am going to let it trickle down and probably close my eBay Store this fall.

I just lost my top rated status and all I have is two neutrals I got in the past two days and nothing else in years....one person sent me a nasty gram asking for a refund...I said no problem, please send the coin back. Two days later he opened a case against me and said that since I never responded to his request for the refund I obviously didn't care wtf? He got his refund promptly and promptly left me a neutral with all 1's for my dsr. Same day another buyer left me a neutral and he never tried to contact me...again....dsr took a hit now bam no top rated seller which probably means I can kiss my discount goodbye image
  • The truth is, eBay is still the simplest and cheapest way to buy and sell coins when it goes right, ie a good seller and a good buyer, but can be a major pita when you run into one of the whackos.

As I said I have 6,500 all 100% feedback with 300+ sales this year but its tough.

A lot of A** kissing, full refunds, no questions asked, pay postage both ways and its still tough.

But I'll block you from bidding in an instant if I sense you will or could be a problem.

Its the last power a seller has left over buyers.

    I've never regreted blocking anyone.....

I now use a consignor if I need to sell anything. Ebay is not what it used to be and I refuse to deal with the headaches, I now pay someone 5% to do that.

One of the main reasons I started following this board was the reports of crooks, wackos, and scammers who were outed by board members. I had just started to sell on ebay after a long absence. I considered board members to be providing a necessary function that ebay certainly wasn't.

Though I decided to not pursue ebay's fancy-schmancy seller status, I do feel sorry for all of you who have tried to put that best foot forward and tried to meet their standards. All that work, all that jumping through hoops, it just didn't seem worth it to me. You're left with more of the crooks, wackos, and scammers and clueless management at ebay.

    Good luck.

Support the websites of your favorite local/online coin dealers! Every time you are buying from eBay, you are perpetuating their existence. I took eBay's negligence of seller needs for 8 years before I finally decided to launch my site, with the help of a guy smart enough to design and implement it.

  • Until sellers band together and stop using ebay in mass, nothing will change.

  • Funny... People on this forum ( including me ) have been for a boycott of Ebay but there were always members telling us to suck it up as it's the only game in town. Flash forward to today and you do not hear from these people as there tired of sucking it up...

By the time you pay Ebay, Paypal & S/H/I ( surprised Ebay did not buy the Post Office, like they did PayPal "-) on a $1000 auction your into $150+- in fees...

So you can now sell that coin on the BST Forum for $850 and make a lot of Friends with half the headaches...

It amazes me the amount of people who list on the BST Forum without Photos, stating if it dose not sell it's going to Ebay where you have to take photos. So why not do it from the jump and make life easier..."-)

Of coarse this is a Collectors view and if your listing 200 to 300 auctions a week it's not as easy but if you cherry picked out 10% for other venues that you know will sell fast at your asking price that would be a start. Who knows maybe you'll be pleasantly surprised by the response and take pride in that's less money in Meg's Pocket...

    My two cents...
