List auctions with a starting price that you can live with. I would never start an auction at .99 cents on an item like that.

I did once on an item I paid like 225 and you guessed all time low on VCP average sell price was 215 mine ended at 116. sent it to the buyer with insurance (250) crossed my fingers and hoped the mailman would lose it.

There used to be an easy way to report this as this happened to me 7 years ago but I'm just not seeing.

Don't remember what the item was other then a lot of cards (1,000 or more). Think the ending price was less then $10 and seller said wanted no less then $350 and immediately re-listed. I gave a neg stating No Reserve Auction/ Refuses To Sell/Wants No Less Then $350 and reported seller to eBay. Re-listed auction was pulled and seller re-listed with me once again reporting and seller was NARU shortly after.

If you did list the Stras at 1K and lost money it would have been your own damn fault. Ebay doens't allow someone to VCP an item after they impulse bid 2X over that amount without getting a NPB ding. This guy should get his neg and lose any fee rebates he had

"overpriced BIN" compared to what a CHEAP closed auction?? if your basing your "overpriced" comment on BV then again BV is only a guided to go by its not a set in stone price and Now adays its pretty much out dated the minute it hits the shelfs. Now adays the Internet is a 24/7 365 days a year Price Guide. "overpriced" Just like "WORTH" and "VALUE" is just an opinion and thats the best thing EVERYONE has different opinions what you may think is overpriced (for whatever reason) others may not.

I knew that, I must have had a brain fart. I prefer auctions as well... if you have nice listings and start low you can get great prices still.

Come one... if an item sells for $80-100 10 times at auction, and is listed at $199 via BIN, that BIN is overpriced. It's worth $100.

Buyers protest over the cost of eBay returns

EBay users are demanding that the online auction site reviews the protection it offers to buyers because many are being left out of pocket when making returns.

If buyers receive an item bought through eBay that is not as described on the website, or is faulty, they can ask the seller to resolve the situation.

If the seller refuses to do so, the buyer can claim a refund via the eBay buyer protection scheme, but the company requires the purchaser to pay the cost of returning the item and this is not refunded.

Although buyers can pursue sellers for the costs under the Sale of Goods Act, it often means resorting to the small claims court.

Stephen McGlade, a solicitor with consumer lobby group Which?, says eBay should look at its buyer protection policy because it unfairly favours sellers and is not in the spirit of the law.

'The law states that if a buyer makes a ''distance'' purchase - that is they don't see the goods until they arrive - and then the goods are not as described, the buyer has the right to reject the item and receive a full refund,' he says.

'It is not the buyer's responsibility to return the goods - they only have to make them available for collection. While eBay says buyers have the right to pursue their legal right to a refund if a seller refuses to give back delivery costs, it would be better to see eBay's own buyer protection scheme stepping in to help buyers in such instances. It doesn't really go far enough.'

Investment analyst Justin Modray, 40, from Camden, north London, fell foul of this after he bought a bathroom basin on eBay from a seller in Durham two months ago.

The basin cost £40 but when it arrived it was shorter than the seller had described on eBay. Unfortunately for Justin, this meant it did not fit.

'When I contacted the seller for a refund he said he'd only refund me if I returned the item,' says Justin. 'But this was going to cost me £30. When I called eBay it stood by its policy.'

Justin returned the basin and is now out of pocket. He is pursuing his case in the small claims court out of principle.

'It would not be necessary for me to go to the courts if eBay's buyer protection scheme wasn't so blatantly biased towards sellers,' he says.

Jenny Thomas of eBay says: 'I appreciate that Mr Modray is frustrated at having to pay the £30 return costs, but unfortunately we do only refund the purchase price plus the original postage and packaging cost through the eBay buyer protection programme.

'Ebay is a marketplace so it is not party to the contract between buyer and seller. Buyers who are not happy can still pursue the seller through the courts.'
