TEMPLE TERRACE, FL -- Two suspected burglars were arrested for grand theft, after pawn shop employees became suspicious of the coins the suspects were attempting to pawn, store employees said.
The man and woman tried to pawn more than $25,000 worth of rare coins last week, but they didn't look like coin collectors, said Joe Cacciatore. Cacciatore owns Capital Pawn on East Busch Blvd.
"They showed us $25,000 worth of coins. We asked what they wanted and they said $400. That was a red flag, big time," said Cacciatore.
One employee did an internet search for coin robberies, while the other kept the suspects busy. Eventually the employees called police. Temple Terrace Police were working a stolen coin case that fit the description of the coins in the store.
Temple Terrace Assistant Police Chief Pat Powers said, "This is still in the works as far as we're concerned, so there's not much more we can say about it."
Christopher Kromrey and Sarah Nolan are charged with grand theft. Kromrey is also charged with burglary.

Generally speaking the pawn shop owner is much more comfortable offering $400. for 25K worth of coins rather than the other way around.

The "didn't look like coin collectors" part has me wondering what kind of profile they had in mind. Perhaps had they been wearing non-smoking smoking jackets they'd still be on the lam with their $400.

If they had asked for $10K the pawn shop would have countered with $1K and they would have been on their way to the next victim. They weren't thinking this through.
