    I agree. MS64.

I think it looks very pretty and you should be proud to own it. Fix the image white balance so its color is true.

Thanks. But, thats pretty much the color of the coin. Here it is from a different lighting angle.

Love the large photo and detail! You have a beauty there.

I know how difficult it is to get color correct. And although some Peace dollars have a golden hue to them I seriously doubt that is the true color.

Maybe if you turn the saturation or contrast down it will be more true to life?

    Just sayin'

OK, I reshot it. I changed the colorspace from ADOBE RGB to "Faithful" and recalibrated the white balance.
I fear I am gonna send this off, and be all excited and a month or so from now I will log in and check my grades and get an MS63. PCGS always breaks my heart!

    Great photo!

I'd say you have a strong shot at 64, maybe even 65...the strike looks pretty strong, and the fields are nice. Just that one tick on the obv...

    Good luck!!

Hard to judge lustre from the photos; but if it has strong original mint lustre, it should grade MS-65, I think.

I don't understand the MS63 guesses. Even in very large images, the coin appears to have very few/unobtrusive flaws. Most MS63's look terrible, by comparison. It looks like an excellent candidate for a 64+ to me

That's everything I'd want to see in a MS-65, I don't think the hits would keep it out of that...nice coin! image

1928 is a tough date for Peace$. PCGS certified almost 7,000. Here are pop and price guide numbers:

    MS64 1578, $1150
    MS65 241, $4200
    MS66 11, $20,000

I think the OP's coin is a 64 with a shot at 65. But PCGS is very conservative with lofty grades for key dates.

However it turns out it is a nice example of a tough date.

Interesting pop numbers, Lance! I suppose with "track" like that this is going to be a harder PCGS-65 than I had at first supposed, I have to say...

I will let you know how it turns out. I just never seem to get the grade I expect. I paid $700 for it. So, if I get a 64 I am good.

    I say 65.

The reasons for my 65 grade-

The fields look very good- no distractions

Well above average Lustre for the date

The few hits on the obverse do not detract enough to hurt the grade

And perhaps the biggest plus is the reverse does not kill the chance of a 65- The Eagle looks good.

I like the chances for this coin- it is worthy of a 65

I'll bet it's a 64 and the reasons it wouldn't go 65 are not that many.

IMHO, this coin comes back anything under a straight-away MS-65, and they graded this looking at their pop reports and past mistakes over looking at the coin, itself...
