you mean to tell me that you had 24,000 cards (or there abouts) all out of wax and cello and you made between 35-40 sets? the best one could do with the least amount of dups would be 33 sets. i think you memroy might be slipping as to the total number of sets. there is no way you would get that great collation.

Actually, looking again at that Murray I think you may have a legitimate shot at a 10...I've subbed a couple hundred 78s I've pulled from unopened packs and gotten about a dozen or so 10s, and that one fits the bill! How is centering on back?

Just my 2 cents the first Murray looks like an 8 or lower. It looks like slight chipping on the right and bottom edges unless thats just the scan? Also on the white border on the right top looks like blue and yellow ink marks. The second Murray you posted looks a lot nicer but the scan isn't as close so I can't say for sure. Hard to tell unless they are in hand with a 10x loope.

Don't forget that when the cards are graded they are not typically blown up to 10 times their normal size where every tiny defect is magnified...no way that first Murray grades lower than an 8...I'd say 8.5 if the snow is from the scanner.
Edit: If 1975 cards with giant fisheyes can grade PSA 9, that tiny print dot on the right border of the Murray will not limit the grade on that card.

The l/r cut edges of the second Murray look a little suspect, but that very easily could be from the scan. If the edges are fine, that thing would be on it's way to Newport Beach tomorrow morning.

Awesome I am glad its just scanner dust. In this case I was hoping I was wrong I hope they both are minimal PSA 9s at the very least.

You have some nicely centered stars in your pull. The high grade population for stars in 78 is probably about to get a little bigger. Maybe a PSA 10 Murray will one day become affordable.

I'd say the first Murray is a slam dunk 8.5 with a real good shot at a 9...as long as the snow is not on the card and it doesn't get hit with a PD qualifier (and BarkusD has said that the snow is from the scan).
I'd say the 2nd Murray has a real shot at a 10, though it's hard to tell for sure without seeing the card in hand, and I do think PSA tends to be tighter with the 10s on star cards like this one.

I can say with almost complete confidence that PSA would not downgrade a card because of any of the chipping you've indicated on this scan. If your cards haven't come back in the grade you've expected it's not because of this kind of chipping- it's because you've either a) caught a cruel grader, or b) have missed something else when you've pregraded.

And the smart comment about finding a 93 Jeter w/o chips... I challenge you to find a 93 SP foil card w/o chipped corners smarty pants. Must be real easy to find...
Anyone have a picture of the psa 10 Molitor RC that sold a few months ago that one had some real chipping issues on the bottom edge if I remember correctly

Twiley, Based on all the 9's and 10"s you've pulled on the last two subs you shared with the boards, you can pre-grade my cards anytime. I wish I could pull that many 9 and 10's.
I'm beginning to think the best way to really self-grade a card is to scan it in high-res and view it on the computer screen. Not only does it help bring out the flaw areas, but it's a lot easier to check the centering, and look for diamond cuts. Right now I use a magnifying desk lamp, but I can see it much better if I just scan it. Hmmmm...
