Add 3-5 years on his career and his RBI #'s would have been out of sight. I also believe he had near the same average as Ruth and Williams.
HR's would have been well into the 650's or better.
Perfect leader for a team. Near perfect man by all accounts.
<< <i>Hard to believe; but underrated===Lou Gehrig. I never hear of him in the conversation as the greatest hitter or player of all time and can't understand why. He was a great player right up until the day he bacame sick.

Lou Gehrig was the most underrated player. I agree. He was overshadowed by Babe Ruth early in his career and then again by Joe Dimaggio later in his career.

WIN!
funny how that works like that.
Now for you Jeff,
Nice Cuckoos Nest reference but it is spelled FAWLTY TOWERS.
I can imagine you in your high flying California life jetting over to England with hot your American/British wife, being the typical ugly American like in the Waldorf Salad episode, probably wanting a screwdriver made from fresh squeezed oranges. Oh what I would have given for a few nights with Polly....
Your Pat Crowley answers surprises me. I figured you more a Hazel man.
P.S. Can I borrow your copy of The Biggest Dog in the World, preferably on Beta.

as for the Hazel reference, we'd better be talkin' Whitney Blake here, not Shirley Booth.
Sweet potatoes are perhaps the only food that comes out better microwaved than any other way
April was near perfect weather around here
Coco powder mixed with weak coffee and sugar by far
Not necessarily in his time, Eddie Murray has been overshadowed by his historical teammate (who himself is overshadowed by history)
Dom DiMaggio was overshadowed by a teammate, a brother and a war. And has been elevated by all three. . .
Samantha Stevens is one of the hottest mom in history, but still almost always rated accurately; Liane Cartman is near the top, but never gets any mention
Who would you rather see?
some community leader who weaseled his way into the White House and in his knowledge of sports he calls the White Sox home stadium Comiskey Field (his home city) toss a pitch 57 feet.
OR
the MAN
<< <i>If Musial played for the Yankees he would be in the mega-GOD category >>
And he still wouldn't have been as good as Ted Williams, yet better than Frank Robinson. Which is exactly how most everyone rates him having played for the Cardinals
If the All-Star game was in Atlanta last year, O'Bama would have been a bigger draw than Hank Aaron
Willie Mays was not named Time Magazine Person of the Year
Why aren't they considered the most underrated when they are upstaged like that?
"Molon Labe"
hitler and ayatollah khomeni have been time magazines man of the year as well. you may be right, things do happen in threes.
does anyone know how willie mays feels about socialize medicine?
<< <i>I would say spelling is the most underrated thing. >>
With syntax and grammar running a very close second.

Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
<< <i>Where exactly are all these people who rate Musial as two pegs below Williams? >>
I remember reading an article in a Sport magazine when I was a kid concerning who was the better player, Musial or Williams. The article conceded that although Musial was a much nicer, decent person, Williams was the better player. FWIW.

Brick,
I would say that Williams was the better hitter, but Musial was the better all around player. I have heard on many accounts that Musial was a better fielder than Williams. Williams also said on one of the shows on espn classic ( I think it was Williams top 20 hitters of all time) that he told his son that Musial was just as good of a hitter as he was.
And over the last couple of weeks I did catch a couple of Barney Miller episodes on TBS - one had the gay black nerd from Revenge of the Nerds as a teenaged pimp, the other had Hank Hey Now Kingsley as a protoTeabagger...so that pretty much speaks for itself...
