Well, let the funeral procession begin.
I just witnessed arguably the single biggest chokes in sports history.
My beloved Boston Bruins, the team I watch all 82 games every year; year after year, the team I have rooted for 40+ years, - OK, I think you get it - just completed the ultimate humiliation. Up 3 games to none to those troglodytes from Philly, they completely collapsed. If that wasn't bad enough, the Bruins were up 3-0 in the 1st period of tonight's game at home and still managed to lose. And the game winning goal was scored on a power play because the Bruins had too many men on the ice penalty.
Somebody pinch me. I am dreaming right?

I heard they were up 3-0 in the first and figured it was in the bag, too many douchebags on Philly for me to cheer for them, was really hoping Boston would pull through.... historic collapse, oh yeah.

This isn't really valid. If the Bruins are YOUR TEAM, meaning your #1 team like it sounds like, the other championships are nice, but it doesn't really matter. If you're a Raiders fan and that's your team forever and everything else is gravy, 3 Warriors titles and 2 A's titles aren't going to make the Raiders losing more palatable.
In Boston, a lot of people are Bruins fans first. Yes, they root for the Red Sox, Pats and C's, but there are still people there who believe it's firmly a hockey town.
That loss stunk. The too many men penalty was just agonizing.

I'll forgive you for being a Flyers fan. After all, anyone who collect the 1985-86 OPC set is allright in my book.

No problem on the busting. By the way, you have the makings of a very nice hockey team. The Avs drafted wonderfully and have several rising stars including: Statsny, Duchene, and Stewart. And may I remind you: last Stanley Cup for Avs was 2001. And the Bruins? 1971-72 season. That's a long time between drinks!
Darn Bruins, that was a day of infamy.
Maybe it worked though, the lads are playing their best hockey at the right time. If we can just get by those pesky young punks on the Hawks, which will be no easy task, we'll be happy to give the Flyers a beat down in the Finals should they make it. The Flyers have looked positively awful against the Men in Teal every time they meet.

Hockey! The game Gary Bettman can't get the defending champs into the third round, and by the way the first two rounds were ref'd lord knows he tried, it was David Stern'esque.
I am a big Joe Thornton fan but I must admit, my 2nd favorite team are the Blackhawks. And Chicago is THE most fun city in America - at least I think so. I am trying to convince the wife that we should take a weekend trip to Chicago. It would be nice to go to the new arena. Having seen many a game at the old Madhouse, I want to see the new place. What better than a Shark / Hawk game coupled with a visit to Millennium Park and the Pier.

Just kidding, of course, Big Joe was a big factor in the Detroit series. He's showing serious signs of finally "stepping up", and he's easily the fan's favorite Shark.
I won't hold the Hawks thing against you...they are a great team, had our number all season, even in the game the Sharks won when Nabby made 40+ saves and stole one. It will be a great series and with apologies to Habs and Flyers fans, whoever comes out of this series is going to win the Cup.

Looking over their relatively small sample of their 13 playoff games, the Bruins scored 34 goals, and allowed 36 goals. Boston’s Goals For/game had increased from 2.39 to 2.91, yet much of the gain came from an unsustainable increase in PP% (16.6% to 23.7%) – with an assist to Buffalo’s suddenly inept penalty killing. The Bruins were also lucky to have only three PP Goals against, and it was only two PPGA before their Game 5 loss––fueled by a highly unsustainable .944 save percentage in 4 on 5 situations.and though they were a good penalty killing team in the regular season at 86.4%, the Bruins rolled up an unsustainable 95.0% PK rate heading into Game 6. In other words, the Bruins were very fortunate to have made it that far. Not that the Flyers or Canadiens are great teams either. Whomever emerges from the Eastern Conference, it's going to be another '06 Carolina Hurricanes situation where a slightly above mediocre team rides a hot goalie and unsustainable defensive metrics to the Finals.

Even though my Bruins are out, I feel the same way. I watched more Kings/Canucks, Canadiens/Pens, Canadiens/Caps etc than I ever would have believed. The playoffs as a whole have been awesome. I'd love to see MON/CHI but I do think the Sharks are by far the best team left. We'll see if their own brief sordid history catches up to them though.

Now I'm hoping to see an Original 6 final. Whatever happens though, the Cup champion will be drinking for the first time in a while.
Re: Lanemyer85 -- That's the beauty of the NHL playoffs. Stats go out the window and while crazy trends are unlikely to be carried through an entire season, it's not uncommon in a 7 game series. 95% PK, why not? The offense starts to grip their sticks a bit tighter and by trying to force things actually make it easier for the D. Goalies can be ridden to a Cup -- the Habs did in with Roy in '86 and '93 -- ask the Bruins about Dryden...
But unlike the NFL playoffs which are a one game crapshoot, it takes a special team to provide a major upset.
Unfortunately for the B's, the collapse will be the thing everyone remembers them by -- not the upset of the Sabres and not the fact they persevered through major injury woes to even get there.
I agree with everything in your post. But you simply cannot come to a game with me! So analytical! Where's your passion. I do need a tax accountant however

Screw that! What's so special about an Original Six series (basically "four" since the Leafs and Rangers are lost causes)...heck - I had to endure learning about hockey through the Oakland/California Golden Seals, then had to go through 1976 to 1991 WITHOUT an NHL team (or much NHL coverage as far as TV and newspapers go).
I wanna experience winning the Stanley Cup, dammit, and I don't care if it will be sunny and 85 degrees outside when they do it!
I don't dislike the Bruins or anything, but I'm not a Bruins fan so I have no "passion" towards them.
Stats go out the window and while crazy trends are unlikely to be carried through an entire season, it's not uncommon in a 7 game series.
stats never go "out the window", it's simply just a much smaller sample size...but the stats noted above showed that the Bruins were playing over their collective heads a bit and due for a 'market correction'. Sure any one team can get hot or pummeled in one aspect of the game...have one galactically bad 7-2 game, and inflate any given stat any one direction...but of course there are a myriad of other factors in any given series...ie today's Hawks/Sharks game...5 penalties called against the Hawks, zero against the Sharks. No one can realistically think the Sharks didn't hook, hold, or interfere once in 60 minutes.
