Just found this coin amongst a few others from a bag search today. Never saw such amazing color on a current date Quarter fresh from a bag our roll.

The Blue is amazing. Also shows streaks of blue on the obverse. Coin looks sooooooo much better in hand

If you don't want to wait on the Large picture there are smaller ones on page 2

Whaaat? Here is a design I've never seen or heard of, from a series I've only heard vague rumors about, and it's already toned?!?

Geez, I am slipping so far behind the times, it's getting ridiculous.

I know the feeling. I posted a picture of an 1990-D quarter that had been toning in a bank envelope for 20 years only to be told by the Forum members that it would not slab.

It's scary to think how a coin has time to tone before I've even heard that it exists, let alone seen one! image

I think I've been off the Mint's mailing list for a while so when new issues come out I'm often surprised. In fact I got a new cent in change yesterday and it gave me a double-take. I guess I don't keep up enough with the modern coin discussions here, either.

Thanks !!! It's a very neat looking coin in hand. What will PCGS do??? Guess I'll send it in and find out. Grade wise MS65 but will they bag it??? If I ask for photo service will it still be completed if they do not grade to coin?

Found several coins with nice golden tone but this was the only blue toner. I'd assume something happened while in the bag.

Looks like it was heated. Maybe the planchet was stuck in the annealing oven? Does it look like it was struck thru the color?

A similar thing happened back in 2000 with the Sac Dollar rolls. Wild toning on the end pieces if anyone recalls. I recall getting one or two in lower grade PCGS holders. If I remember correctly the "blame" was on temperature change - I do not recall exactly when that took place in the process. Maybe someone recalls this?

The fact you personally found it and you know it came directly from the Mint tells you that it is a legit error. The error graders at pcgs or ngc will know exactly what it is and how to label it. You will be lucky to get $20 for this coin on ebay without getting it slabbed. If it gets slabbed as a mint error and comes back with some fancy name then I bet you could get in the hundreds for it on ebay. good luck

Also let me state something else. I received quite a few US Mint Hot Spring rolls and what was very noticable was the fact that all the Denvers had a nice shinny BU luster and all the Philly's were a very dull luster. It kind of reminded me when the presidential dollars came out how the washingtons were most bu with proof like lusters and the adams were so dull. I'm not sure if the dull lusters I've received were related in any part to the ones you found, but it does seems there are more quality control problems that come out of the philly mint as opposed to the denver. I'm sure the Mint would love a big error to help jump start this national park series, kinda like what happened with the Washington missing edge dollars.

I think people underestimate how quick metal can tone. Ive seen silver bracelets tone in 1 trip to the beach. I used to work at a major retail jewelry store and people would come back with black bracelets with rainbow colors mixed in asking to get cleaned up. Pretty sure they werent artifically toning them for moentary gain.

All one has to do is simply hit Control - and the pic shrinks to any size you want. Meanwhile, folks who enjoy seeing the big shots on their big screens can enjoy them too. Is that unreasonable?

If this Control option doesn't work as on my keyboard...

Just right click you mouse and hit "view image" and it will reduce it to a medium sized tru-view... then left click to get back.

Well, I was half joking, but I'll respond to this.....
    1) Hitting Ctrl - doesn't just shrink the picture....on my browser, it shrinks the text as well.....it's an unreasonable solution. Is that unreasonable to think that?
    2) Hey....I can appreciate a large picture at times as well, but overall, some folks try to enjoy the forum from slower connections, smaller monitors than a 60" plasma hooked up, or even from their phones....is that unreasonable?
    3) I remembered this one from last month and I missed the edit tot he title as putting it the way it was put doesn't really call out the "LARGE TRUEVIEW PICTURE" (which I capitalized but MAS didn't). I wanted to see what the coin came back and I would have enjoyed the pic as well, but in the medium or small settings. I got in and out before the whole coin redrew on my screen. So, if selective sharing is what is desired, then I am in the wrong. If sharing with more of the forum that would like to enjoy it was the purpose, then, am I being unreasonable?
    4) I would disagree about not being able to appreciate the picture quality and colors with the "OTHER images" as Mitch resized his the other day and I was able to MORE enjoy the quality and color of his coins when he did that. I have a 20" monitor at home and a 22" one at work. Neither one showed me the whole coin image on 1 screen when I opened the thread. If that is what you are after, you succeeded.

Now, that all said, I actually wasn't upset by it, but I also didn't wait for it to load, nor do I scroll for the pictures. So, I again say that the image is enjoyable w/o the SUPER large images and I would hazard a guess that I am not alone.

Since you asked, yes, it's unreasonable. Post a 1200 pixel wide, web-friendly picture and a link to a crazy large one. The offendng picture, at 16 megapixels, is over 4x the size of what can be displayed on a 30" monitor driven by a single DVI cable and takes a long time to download, even on a broadband connection. Not even the 56" QFHD (quad full HD) monitors that are driven by 4 DVI cables and carry 5-figure price tags could display this picture without shrinking it first.

Anyway, cool coin. I have to wonder how stable it is, though. I also have to wonder if HRH bought Phil a D3x camera body for TrueViews.

Very nice looking coin. I also really like the machine doubling on this one. Seems to be a lot of doubling of the letters going on, obverse and reverse. BTW, it's the big pic that makes this apparent, so I don't mind the big pics, actually prefer them.....

I would think they would call it an error or AT, a normal number wasn't one of the options I would have predicted. --Jerry

Good job Jerry your prediction was correct.

While looking at the order status last night

Line # Item # Cert # PCGS No. Coin Date Denomination Variety Country Grade
    1 1 16232555 418813 2010-P 25C Hot Springs NP US MS64

The coin # shows no indication other than a straight up 2010 P Hot Springs

However Cert. # verification this morning shows this:

    Cert Verification #: 16232555
    PCGS Coin #: E418813
    Date, mintmark: 2010-P
    Denomination: 25C
    Variety: Hot Springs NP
    Minor Variety:
    Mint Error: Improperly Annealed Plan
    Pedigree: Hot Springs NP
Country: The United States of America
    Grade: MS64

I'm assuming making it a better coin with the Mint Error Designation?

The TrueView background has recently been redesigned. There are PCGS logos in the background, but it's much more subtle giving more emphasis on the coin itself. The large size images are now larger in size, going from a roughly 10 megapixel images to a 16-17 megapixel image. This change was done to facilitate larger images produced with newer cameras - the old background was designed for smaller images back in '05.

Just a bit since that CNTRL Key thing also reduces the size of the text.
I prefer to simply save the picture and view it with Microsoft Office Picture Manager.

As for the coin itself, simply an awesome example of planchet sintering which has multiple's of value over what an MS64 would normally bring!

While I understand the reasoning behind this Phil, I kinda liked the old background anbd you know how coin collectors feel about "change".

Trust me, that was a concern. However, think of it as a new "holder" for the coin images. I think collectors are used to the variations of PCGS slabs. I know DH likes the new one better, but I know that some may prefer the older one. No one has outright hated it (yet anyway) so I think it'll be something people may get used to and/or grow to like.
