Can anyone tell me about this CBH collection? Why is it so notable? Was it sold off long ago?

I happen to have a few CBHs from this collection, my favorite being my 1822, which happens to also be my avatar.
Check it out in my Registry link below.

    Thanks for any info.

    Hi Dave,
Where did you hear about this collection? I don't know it and am curious too.

I don't know how notable this collection was but Michael says on his website that he started collecting CBH's in 1978 by Overton varieties and updated his collection to higher grade examples over the years.

I found the following at this website:

    Early American Rarities Collection

The Early American Rarities Collection is being displayed here for both reference and enjoyment. The collection was first started in 1978 as an Overton set with varieties grading Very Fine. This early collection was before the days of grading services and internet shopping. Finding coins then was both difficult and rewarding. Over the years the collection has changed in terms of grade and content. During the late 80’s the set was upgraded to XF45 to AU50 and then around 1999 to choice AU. Currently the grading range of the collection is primarily PCGS AU55 to MS62, but as we all know the opinion of grade can vary from person to person, service to service and even vary within the same grading service. We highly recommend to our clients to collect within a range of grades rather than trying to collect one specific grade. There are capped bust halves grading XF45 and AU50 that are beautifully toned with superb eye-appeal. Some of these pieces are in our opinion more desirable than higher graded coins of the same variety.

Many of the coins displayed here have been sold or traded over the years and now have new homes, but while they may be gone, they are never forgotten.

The owner's name is Michael Ferguson. Full time architect, part time collector, and an extremely nice guy. As to the claimed notoriety of the collection, I don't know, but much of it has already been dispersed.
