My experience a couple of years ago with the Hyatt is that the rooms (2 stays) were badly in need of a redo (paint, wallpaper, furniture, etc). It is very convenient though.
There is a Renaissance a half block away that has a decent weekend rate at $118 for AAA members.
Many dealers shop Priceline - but it may be a cab ride to the Convention Center.
You could also try the Queen Mary - altough the kids love to party there this time of year.

I still haven't stayed there myself, but this one is often regarded as the best one in the area.

Not counting the Avia Hotel, the hotels around the convention center area (Hyatt, Westin, Renaissance, Hilton, Queen Mary, etc.) as a whole aren't exactly impressive but the Westin and Hilton appear to be in better shape than the others.
The Hyatt is connected and the Renaissance and Avia are across the street. The Westin is an easy two blocks away. The Hilton is a long walk (about 3/4 mile) or very short car ride away.

Not being impressed with the big chain hotels in LB, I stayed last time at the Varden, a boutique hotel. It's a bit of a hike on Pacific St, but it has an excellent low-key Mexican restaurant next door and is close to the light rail (Metro) station. The hotel itself was decent, quiet, but really nothing to write home about. I think it had free WiFi. I got satisfaction, however, in not giving my money to the big chains.

<< <i>We stayed at Avia last February and loved it. It's a new building and very reasonable rates. The only down side was no room service. >>
No room service!?!?!? No deal!
I need to make 100% sure that I can get June 1 to June 3rd off from work so I can book.
June 1 - June 3 is good enough, right?

Doesnt it start on the 3rd?
If this sounds wrong someone please correct me.
Maybe I should leave early on the 2nd (to make the 1st auction), and be there on the 3rd and 4th instead.
