1957-58 Topps George Yardley Auto RC--Why is it $2500?

Is this guy off his rocker, or is this actually valuable?

I dunno but did PSA/DNA authenticate an autograph where the name is spelled wrong? Or is the guy's real name GEOGE?

Edited to add - I looked for a while last nite and never found 2 examples of his "autograph" that were identical. Some had a loop from the O to the G in George that looked like an R, others did not.

He died of ALS so I would think that he was unable to sign auto requests for at least some time before his death.

he died in 04. My guess is that there are a fair few of those out there. $2500 is a lot. I would have guessed $300-$400
  • The card has great eye appeal with that awesome centering, which is rare for that set, plus the autograph looks beautiful and he passed away before any certified autographs. They did make a cut card in the 2005-06 GOTG set which has sold in the past for $1250, so for an authentic RC with an on the card autograph, it doesn't surprise me at all. This seller sells pleanty of RC autographs and they are usually fairly priced, so if he's putting that price on this one I trust it, plus I know what his cut sold for, so i'd rather have an authentic over a certified anyday of the week. Great card!!!

i still agree with jimq that the autograph is spelled wrong which raises red flags to me. Even is it is PSA/DNA certified, they could of made a mistake. I don't know too many people who spell their own name wrong.

Now that Gio, I mean SportsItUpCards, I mean EB22, I mean HobbyKings, I mean Kneel has put his clueless "seal of approval" on it, you can guarantee that it's not worth anywhere near $2,500.
