Your thoughts on this Morgan?

lkeigwinlkeigwin Posts: 16,894 ✭✭✭✭✭
Your opinion? Particularly on NT vs. AT, grade, and reason for its unusual color and appearance. At least I think it's unusual. I don't know Morgans very well.

The images are accurate with regard to color and toning. And it is PCGS-graded MS64.

Not withstanding the PCGS grade, The photo looks like a coin that has been whizzed and re-colored. Look at the marks on the neck, how they've been smoothed out. I do not like the looks of this coin. JMHO

My opinion is that the coin is NT and the grade appears appropriate from the images. I like it.

Wonderful MS64+, with a typical and beautiful album toning. Golden hues with a touch of teals and greens and blues mix very well
    with the russets! 100% NT.

    Nice dollar!

Coin looks perfectly fine to me, and it looks very nice for the grade.

Coin looks beautiful, and if it's a 64 it is very high end for the grade.

It also looks like it might be a Top 100 VAM 12 "Alligator Eye". Go here and take a look to verify.
    When in doubt, don't.

I scrolled directly to the picture before reading anything as I figured that this was a Guess the Grade thread. IMO it's a beautiful coin that looks NT and MS65.

    clean coin. 64+

The color is probably natural, since there really isn't any reason to AT a coin like this so lightly.

I really like the looks of this Morgan, super clean for a 64 and I would say NT.

I have one of those "golden" Morgans too. 1888 I think and PCGS ms64, one year after yours. Yours is very nice.

very interesting, one and only one dis so far and everyone else is in love.
gotta say that I really like it too...
  • better looking than my PCGS MS 64 for the date, so I'd say MS 64 +...... But we all know I suck at grading . Hey... Is there a "you suck" award for being the worst grader ???? If so ... I hereby apply for one.... image

Looks just fine to me Lance and the toning looks like it may have sat in an album for a while.

Very attractive & quite natural IMHO! image

Nice coin. I like it too.
  • I don't like that type of light toning on Morgans but it looks completely NT and that coin is at least a plus candidate but if I sent it in and it came back less than a 65 I would not be a happy camper.

    I like it at a NT MS64

  • A PQ Coins indeed, not worth the + or the 65 upgrade IMHO...

PCGS Price Guide puts it at $63/MS64, 75$/MS64+, $155/MS65...

The plastic would cost more then the coin...!

I'd just sit back and enjoy the ride...

All I can say is that it looks much nicer than a 64...very clean "hit free" coin...Nice

I like the coin and think it should have a 64+ at least and wouldn't be surprised to see it in a 65 holder.
