But it's already cracked! What do you want? Three, maybe four pieces?

Am I understanding the label correctly? Is this coin made out of plastic?

Lots of odd materials were tested for war cents. Even glass. image

    Cool coin!

No need to crack out a crack in that's cac'd out, just for a plus sign. The laser could melt it and you might get a blob back.

PCGS gives it a PR62, and CAC says "solid for the grade."

No offense, I know this coin is made of plastic and all, but it is... CRACKED IN HALF. What in the world would the next grade DOWN be???

In all fairness to both PCGS and CAC, the proposed plastic planchet could not hold up to the higher speed US Mint machines hence its rejection as a substitute to the copper cent for 1943.

In a way, isn't this cool as possible evidence as to why the US Mint made the decision not to use plastic in 1943?

As part of the testing of new coin materials, mint technicians probably tested these patterns for strength and durability and one of these tests probably involved bending the pattern to see how strong the material was and how hard it would be to break the coin.

Nice coin, never knew it existed.
