Roll Prices

How do you set a price for MS rolls? Specifically, Lincoln rolls. Do you look at the PCGS price guide for the price of a single (in the lower grade), then multiply? Just curious. I haven't seen as many on the Bay for me to get an idea. Thanks in advance.
A 1943 copper Lincoln will still only buy a gumball out of the machine, but you can purchase the machine and the store with that same cent.

That would give a price much higher than reality.

There are other price guides that include rolls.
Many memorial rolls will be a few dollars, unc wheat rolls are going to be a lot more.

What year are you thinking about?

There is a guide which dealers use called the grey sheet. You might be hard pressed to find them at these prices, or you might be impressed when you do.
  • Greysheet times 1.5 when you buy and time .25 when you sell image
  • 47-D I've attached a photo of one of them. Not a great picture, but will do better when I sell.

The May 2010 edition of Coinage Magazine lists UNC rolls of 1947-D cents at $50 retail. Although these price listings are often high, this price appears to be very close to accurate retail.
  • Thank you. Those didn't come up when I searched. Must not have phrased it correctly.

RedHerring - do you have prices for 42-d and 39 rolls also?

Yes I do. From the magazine: '42-D is $135 and '39 is $165.

Retail pricing assumes an average roll for dates like 47D. Figure on MS63-64 coins and a few spots and fingerprints in the roll for that price.
