Every Morgan dollar is a VAM, it is just a matter of determing which one you have. The crack itself does not warrant separate VAM (e.g. 1XY, 1XZ) desigation. Take a look at VAM World and see if you can match it up. Your coin looks like a crack rather than a break. There must be displaced metal in order to be a break.

I'm thinking VAM-23A, but I can't see any clashing in front of the neck. Might be an earlier die state, or the clashing just isn't visible in your pic.

I too looked at 32A but no broken star or clashing.
48A says die break above cap #2, perhaps I need to find #1? It's not #2

    Not 32A- 23A... I believe that's break above cap #1:

    1884-O VAM-23A

Edited to add: the date position appears to be correct for 23A as well... without the clashing it would be a different state, maybe even a discovery...

THANKS, That it 23A, clash is faint but it's there as is the n.

Had not seen the clash before as it is not great on an EF/AU piece!

    Good work Christian!

Just picked one of those up at CSNS last Friday. The field break is rather eye-catching on a BU coin. Picture later.
