Instead of paying $106 million on a Picasso, I'd rather buy...

...some coins. What would they be?

Can you even buy $106 million worth of coins?

Let's see, the 10 1933 double eagles would cost around $50 million plus the 5 1913 nickels at $15 million...

Then again I couldn't buy all the 2009 P nickels (39.8 million coins) at 3 bucks per coin.

    Shelter for the homeless.

    Food for poor families.

Pumps, mops and towels for Nashville.

Week-long vacations at the Hale Koa in Honolulu for all US military enlisted personnel.

Oh, and a New England Shilling, Higley Copper, and a Gloucester Token.

As many AGE's as I could find.

I think you can find a better painting for less than 100K. So finding $106 million in coins that I'd prefer to own shouldn't be that hard.

I would buy virtually any coin, even a beat-up Special Olympics' dollar instead of the Picasso.

If I had to blow $106,000,000.00 on coins, I'd have a complete, finest-known Seated Liberty Half Dollar collection.

I would buy every single Anacs photo cetificate coin I could get my hands on. That should cover about 5 million. Then after I die, there would be a famous hoard named after me. The coins would then be submitted by collectors and recieve grades that are typically 1 point overgraded, but the collecting community would turn a blind eye because the famous hoard provenance. image
Need a Barber Half with ANACS photo certificate. If you have one for sale please PM me. Current Ebay auctions

Scene: Hammer falls on $106 million Picasso painting.
Auction spectator talking to winning bidder.

Spectator: "Wow !! You just spent $106 million for a painting. Why not spend that money on a hospital instead ?"
Bidder (pointing at auctioneer/seller): "What are you pestering me for !? They're the ones with the $106 million now."

$106 million is a lot of money... It is nice to dream image

    My favorites would be:
    1913 V Nickel
    Gem Chain Cent
    1894-s 10c
    1876 CC 20c

For an ancient coin I would buy the Eid Mar Denarius on sale in a few weeks.

That would be a nice collection, with lots of money to spare.

    ...If I had $106 million.....

...I might not buy a bunch of coins....sometimes the thrill is trying to afford the coins you like, having to put in some effort to accomplish a goal...if it came too easy, it might not be as rewarding.

...I wonder if some billionaires think, "1913 nickel...4 million...chump change, why bother?"

    ......I collect old stuff......

Well since it's not my money to spend, I'm afraid to answer for fear the IRS will audit me for conspiring to avoid taxes on coins I dream about owning. image

With the $106 million I would buy every 1950 Cameo and DCAM proof Franklin Half and would enjoy life a little bit with my family and friends instead of working full time.

If the left over money was $100,000,000.00 that would be a large chuck of change.

Viewed from another perspective though $100,000,000.00 is small change. Our federal deficit projected for the coming fiscal year is projected to be about $1.9 trillion dollars (according to media reports).

$100,000,000.00 is just 1/19,000th of the $1.9 trillion deficit.

Put another way, every day (for the next 365 days) you would have to spend $5,205,479,400.00 to reach the $1.9 trillion annual deficit.

Put another way, every hour (for the next 365 days) you would have to spend $216,894,970.00 to reach the $1.9 trillion annual deficit.

Put another way, every minute (for the next 365 days) you would have to spend $3,614,916.10 to reach the $1.9 trillion annual deficit.

Put another way, every second (for the next 365 days) you would have to spend $60,248.60 to reach the $1.9 trillion annual deficit.

I guess that $100,000.00, while large in my eyes, just does not go as far today as it did in years past.

    IT WOULD BE GREAT !!!!

I would even do a type set and a box of 20!!
