Fake Barber Halves on eBay

rld14rld14 Posts: 2,390 ✭✭✭
This really ticks me off image Another board member pointed this out to me.... I reported this auction:

Fake 1905-O

But the jerk already got a victim image

Fake 1904-O

I contacted the winner of the 04-O, hope he joins us. I suggested that he contact eBay, PayPal, etc to recover his money.

These look like the old chinese cast fakes, makes me sick. How dare they defile Barber Halves!

So heads up to all...

Bill

    were you an underbidder?

I am curious how you know who won, as eBay is attempting to make that more difficult

ps, it sux they are hitting barber halves - why do you think cast and not struck (from weak detailed die)?

I hope the buyer gets his $$ back for that 04-O. The denticles are a dead giveaway on the fakes.

What about the dentils is the give away? Are they not sharp and square enough for an AU coin? I must admit that at least to me, these are darn good fakes; maybe in hand they are more obvious. Also, I would be caught off guard by seeing AU Barber halves, complete with circ marks, as potential fakes. Scary!

I have seen a few cast Chinese fakes, and these don't look like them. In fact, I can't tell they are fakes at all. Please educate me on how you detect these as counterfeit.

    Guys,

In the images... look at the denticles on the reverse, also look at how the denticles are very uneven, the wrong shape, and in some spots they sit above the edge of the rim.

Look closely, the pics are bad, IMO, on purpose.

Chris - Manorcourtman - asked me about these
coins a few days back - and I'm glad others are
watching out for fakes. Now - if these Barbers
get in fake PCGS holders - with the correct cert.
