I Just CANNOT Believe it!

Tonights Teletrade auction had a bunch of CnClad Kennedy's in MS66 up for auction and much to my surprise, the results were off the charts!

image

As you can see, at least 4 of the coins sold for more than a $50 premium and the rest were between a $20 and $30 premium.

WTF!
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

i was checking some MS65 and MS66 Ike's this morning and those have really crashed at TeleTrade.

    Apples to oranges there, Sunshine.
Maybe the kennedy market is going up a little, or maybe at least 2 folks wanted some kennedys tonight and were ok with nice looking examples at a little premium (tired of waiting premium)?

I just don't see the direct comparison of Ikes to Kennedys, aside from both having been president and neither one really circulating anymore image

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

N/S! 1977-1978 have had some major population increases which is the drawback to collecting moderns.
I don;t even want to think about how badly my previous "rips" have been "ripped" to shreds!

As for the Kennedy's, these just do not come up that often but the above prices were simply outrageous!

I couldn't keep up with the friggin bidding!

It's such a small market that a little competition can have dramatic effects.

perhaps a couple collectors are working on their sets and had their eyes on the same coins.

Technically it only takes two with the same mindset and pocketbooks. But I know absolutely nothing of the Kennedy market.

were those all of the kennedys in the old green holders??? If so, I wouldn't think there are tons of those around in OGHs so maybe some slab collectors wanted to take the opportunity to grab some.

other than that, must have been a bidder going up against a high reserve and/or another collector.

I think a true MS66 1971 Kennedy Half Dollar is a real prize among the clad issues. People seem to think pre-1985 gem BU Kennedy Halves
grow on trees but such coins require much searching (except 71-D & 72-D.) 40% Silver-clad Kennedies are even scarcer in MS66/+ (except
    68-D.)

Out of the 21 OGH clad Kennedies offered tonight on eBay I bid strongly on all of then yet only won eleven of the coins offered.
Had I known prices were going to be as strong as they were on the ten I missed out on I'd have bid higher to secure winning them.

Each of these coins is extremely lustrous and I believe truly premium for the grade.

I've avidly collected this series for the last fifteen years (used to own a top five registry of these before selling them all to Wondercoin about eight years ago). I've also dealt with Teletrade since 1987 and have gotten somewhat good at reading their photos. I've never minded paying full retail (and thensome?) for the right coin(s). Again, my only regret is I didn't figure others may be thinking the same and would have jacked my bids (much) higher on the ten I missed out on. I would love to have purchased all 21 coins offered tonight. My hope is one or more are returned (buyers remorse- although I doubt that will happen) and they're offered again in a later auction.

I was prepared to pay PCGS List plus the 15% buyers fee. I had $700+ ready to spend. BUT...................not on just 3 or 4 coins.

When the bids hit $50 over PCGS List, I really did not want to (continue) to pay premium money (just) to complete a collection.

I'll just wait and continue to shop around.

Not being a Kennedy guy, though a bit of an error novice, I was going to bid on this, as I thought it would be very cool to own. Where the price was at the end (I thought it was rather low...perhaps very low...almost a rip?), I tried a last second bid of $75, but alas, the system must have hiccuped, and my bid never got in (I've made a few nice rips lately on TT, so I can't really complain). Whether my $75 bid would have taken it or not will never be known (though I'll keep my eye open for it, but doubt it will come up again). I have to imagine if the '2nd' coin were with it, it would have gone for multiples, as Kennedy errors of this type aren't all that common (error guys, help me out and confirm, or dispute, please?).

Not being a Kennedy guy, though I do notice Kennedy errors, more times than not, fetch decent $$. For those that DO follow the series and/or errors, was that price as good a deal as I think it was????
    I'll come up with something.

I've paid that premium before, but usually only 5-10% above what waiting might have saved.

I won two after I gave up and just started slamming prices down.

I was a real bloody experience.

Think of Kennedy's as the defensive maneuver. They cant to any lower!

Still I really liked this part ..
