Feel better about your modern crap cards

I feel better about my modern crap cards now. My wife finally gave me permission to sell her Beanie Baies. Never mind. I just spent a couple hours going through 350 Beanie Babies and they are worth approximatley ZERO. Ok, I could list them with buy-it-nows of a buck or two. Not good. Thinking about doing the children's hospital donation.
I was sure out of all those boxes there would be some rare item. Even the famed Princess Di beanie sells for about a buck if you are lucky!
She also has some Super Bowl XXXII stuff which I might put up on the bst board if she lets me. Program, hat, transistor radio, ticket stub, etc.... We shall see....
Oh ya, found her 2000 Democratic National Convention Barbie. My mom was a delegate that year and gave my wife some of the SWAG including this Barbie. I remember right after the convention they sold for over $200. Not anymore.
Oh well, at least I cleared some garage space out!

have you seen some of the Bowman Chrome sales lately? $7000, $4500, $4200 for 9's....WOW
the Pujols Graded cards (PSA and BGS) are really moving at nice levels!
<< <i>Beanie babies are coming back ! it just may take a while (sort of like a PSA 1 87 Topps Barry Bonds getting back up to 10.00).
Wasn't there a thread of guys setting up at card shows and getting phone calls from people wanting to unload their beanie babie collection in bulk for like $0.65 for mint tags in plastic flip holders?? You can still make money on those things if you know how to buy...example Pay $0.35 cents each in bulk mint tags dump on ebay for $0.80 - $0.95 in bulk on ebay profit! People can still do it but it is a pain... They do make nice little gifts for ages 4-9! The ages they were intended for in the first place simply as gifts and toys

LSUTIGERS, your act is getting so old...
wish the MODS would wisen up and get rid of the Poison on this board..YOU
My wife's are primarily Beanie Babies from '94 through '02 and also Disney characters from the same years. It is rare to see any of them sell for more than a buck on ebay and 99% of them start at 99 cents and do not sell.
Also, I wasn't saying anything about Pujols cards when I referenced modern crap cards. I was referring to MY modern garbage like 1980's and early 90's any sport!
Beanies and Starting Linups are the #1 & #2 example of a "hoarded in large amounts by families on every block of the USA so I can put my kids through College" items.
Supply and Demand is so out of whack on them, they will always be worth what they originally sold for..... $4 ea.
Only scarce Beanie is that ugly blue elephant....... with tag! .... none can be considered "RARE".
Didn't you know that there are tobacco cards, Goudey cards, 1950s cards and Pujols cards. There have been no other cards ever made. So when you say "modern," it automatically means Pujols and could reference absolutely nothing else
<< <i>I wish I was selling Beanie Babies when they were on fire. >>
My first eBay transaction ever was selling off some Beanie Babies that an ex-gf had bought for me...
Got over $300 for them!

I made quite a bankroll on Beanie Babies.
There was a smoke shop/baeball card store that I used to go to in the mid/late 90's. The owners were a nice older couple. The wife ran the smoke shop/lottery etc and the husband the sportscards/Beanies.
He would open a box of everything for singles but when he got an expensive card it wouldn't sell unless it was a local player. So I sold thing for him on Ebay.
In return he would let me buy 1 box of cards a week at cost and any Beanie Baby @ $4 each. I bought my daughter who was 10 at the time about 75 of these.
She had quite a few 1st edition Beanie's indluging Lefty and Righty (Donkey and Elephant). A woman at work HAD to have these, even GASP with the tags missing. She offered $400 for the pair. These were toys that had been played with as intedned so they were not out of the box fresh.
I tell my daughter if she wants to sell them. She got a little sad as she liked them. I then explained the simple economics of the situation. She could keep the 2 she had or sell them and buy 100 more. She decided to sell. So I put $350 in her savings account and bought her a dozen more she was thrilled.
Then when the "special" bears came out I was fortuante to get 2 of the Princess Di bears. One went to my daughter, who still has it today as a 25 year old because she like the color. The other sold for $300.
When my daughter grew out of them I was still getting them @ $4ea and selling them instantly to people I worked with for $8-$10. I sold about 500 over 2 years before the guy and his wife retired.
It was pretty cool when it lasted.
When I moved in 2003 we had a Garage Sale and my daughter still had about 40 she didn't want anymore. I gave 5 or 6 out to little kids at the sale when along came a woman who thought she hit the lottery. She bought 30+ and offered me $100 for the lot. I was more than happy to accept!
So now that everything is all said and done we have 2 left. A princess Di and a pryaing "hope" bear that has very personal meaning to me.

That ends my defense of fandango and I now go back to wishing that he loses a fight with a hungry bear.
Edited for spelling.
That would be easiest but there still might be a children's home or hospital that would like both the cards and the beanies!
@ jlzinck-
Good story. Thanks for sharing. I have lefty, righty, Hope, and Di, among the lot. Sadly, none of them are worth but a buck now. Funny how times change.
