Who are these foolish eBay bidders?

I see tons of foolish eBayers paying ridiculous money for cleaned, fake, altered, etc coins. There are tons of threads daily reporting another eBay auction with poor photos or people paying too much, in the hopes of getting a coin much better than the photos indicate.
Who do you think these people are?
Newcomers to the hobby who haven't bought the book before the coin? Gamblers who take a desperate chance? Or veteran collectors exploring coins they don't know much about?

That's my vote. Add to that newcomers who think coins are an easy investment.
Must be because mine aren't cleaned/fake/altered/counterfeit/etc.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
<< <i>I don't know but I am upset that they don't bid on my auctions!

They only bid on auctions that describe coins well like L@@K GEM BU +++++++++
If you are honest the coin then sounds boring.

That's not to say I haven't been "easy pickings" for some skilled sellers when I haven't sought advice here. One case in particular was when I bought some 82 and 83 "mint sets" which were presented such that I thought they were Souvenir Sets.

They seem to never bid on my auctions but are always after the coins I bid on. Its a vicious cycle!
<< <i>I'm guilty to a degree. An example ... I paid $65 for an 1880-O Morgan that was no better than AU-53. I can usually get 'em all day for $20-25 each. The coin was nothing special to look at, but not unattractive. I resold it on EBay a month later for $750, attributed this time. You have to watch for those varieties.
That doesn't quite sound like the cleaned, fake and altered coins that the Op was speaking of.

Nope, it's the "etc." coin he spoke of!
Agree...

<< <i>I guess they didn't like the coins they were buying from HSN! >>

I also agree. I wonder how much more my auctions would have went for if I had hyped the coins up like so many sellers do nowadays.
The average I.Q. in America is 100. Brittney Spears has a 105 which puts her in the 65th percentile.
Talk about scary.
