  My great uncle offered me my choice of an 1854-S or 1855-S half eagle, I took the '55, as I dug those slanty italic 5s.

  Set up was today. Dealers arrived at 4:00 and then at 5:00 the dealers were given a tour of the "Granite Lady". The building is mostly sandstone, which has weathered quite a bit over the years. There are steel-sided vaults with silver dollar-sized impressions. I took out my magnifier and saw 5981 in one of the impressions (not). Learned that the guy who designed the building built it on sand covered with a concrete slab so the building could slide as one piece in an earthquake rather than collapse. It worked as designed in 1906.
