Now that coins can be "fingerprinted" by PCGS, is it time to offer a "Secure-Cap"
I've long been frustrated by the impossibility of collecting slabs in nice compact albums. The slabs are too big, the albums that exist too flimsy, and the aesthetics of displaying coins in multiple brands of TPG plastic just plain suck.
The new PCGS technology creates an opportunity to solve that problem. What if PCGS offered collectors the option (in conjunction with SecurePlus) of having coins encapsulated in 2x2 mini-slabs or capsules? PCGS could also offer a series of albums to house the new holders. While the new smaller holders would probably not be as secure as the old larger holders, the availability of digital images might provide enough security to make it viable. And finally, other TPGs might be smart enough to create their own mini-slabs or capsules in a size and style similar to PCGS, enabling collectors to attractively display all of their coins in one album.

Agree. Most slab designs are bigger than they need to be. Some of us use safe deposit boxes and smaller slabs are a more efficient use of space. A 2X2 slab with date, mintmark, grade, serial number, etc in small print around the edge would be great.
