Someone got a nice score at Teletrade

I was looking at TT realized price history for some Lincolns from the so-called "Lakeside" hoard and found this surprise:

Sold for $345 with juice...

It looks like these were submitted in bulk (by TT or earlier by the consignor), as the cert #'s are tightly bunched together. The subject coin is followed in the PCGS database by 4 consecutive 1909-S (no VDB) coins, and 3 of those 4 are graded F15 just like this one. It's obviously not acceptable but I can understand how PCGS might have goofed here.

<< <i>darn, and I looked at all of those too, guess i didn't look careful enough. but based on the $345 price, at least two people knew about it at the time of the auction, and at least one of them was nice enough to stop bidding. >>
Yeah, my initial reaction to it was, 'What the hell was the underbidder thinking!!??' You'd think he/she would have put in a max bid a few hundred $ higher and at least give themselves a fighting chance to win in case someone else recognized the mistake and put in a bid, which turned out to be the case.
Edit: Corrected for spelling.

<< <i>why would the seller not know this? >>
See Bushmaster's post. The most probable scenario as he said was they were submitted raw in bulk by Teletrade for the consignor, and of course returned right back to Teletrade for auction and not to the consignor. Not surprised that no one at Teletrade caught it either, there were a ton of coins in this deal.

Just guessing.
<< <i>The reverse photo was Photoshoped to make it look like VDB.
Just guessing. >>
So, Coolest, you saying TT did the photoshopping and calling them dishonest about it?
That's pretty ballsy, and unlikely.
If you go to TT here you will see that the OP used the straight up TT photos....he didn't edit them, so that would lean towards you accusing TT of photoshop editing......
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Well I'm guessing you didn't read the thread, as it's been established that the slab was mislabeled - the VDB is legit.

<< <i>Wow, that's crazy. I guess somebody has recourse with PCGS, due to the mechanical error? >>
Given that there are a bunch of 1909-S (non-VDB) Lincolns under cert numbers near the subject coin, I'm guessing that it was the submitter's (likely Teletrade's) error in that they were all likely submitted as 1909-S (non-VDB) cents together under the same line number on the PCGS forms. Sure, PCGS should share in the blame for not picking up something this significant.
I have a couple of 1909 VDBs in regular non-VDB PCGS holders as well... but none of them are from San Francisco!! But given the few that I have and now this coin, it sure doesn't seem to be an isolated incident on the 1909 cents, so pay close attention!!!
