Confused by teletrade promotion

Does the free grading promotion benefit the seller in any way? It is offered with wording to entice the seller into cosigning but I dont see what would be so exciting about getting raw money for a coin that grades better than it sold for after you sell it? And in the case it grades lower then no one will be benefit?

"For a limited time only, you can get your coins certified by PCGS or NGC for absolutely free! Just consign your raw coins to an upcoming Teletrade® auction and for every coin that sells for $250 or more, Teletrade® will pay the grading costs!"

I suspect they grade the coin before auction, mumu. If the newly-graded coin sells for more than $250, then TT pays for the grading. If the coin goes for less than $250, the seller pays the $11 grading fee.

Or at least that's how I read it....Mike

They use to offer free grading regardless of what it sold for. I guess they are cutting back.

Their regular grading fee is $11. Is that what CU charges them or is Teletrade subsidizing the cost as I don't think there is a grading fee that low at CU?
  • Do they send the coin out to be graded? Does that add shipping cost 2 more ways?
  • yes. no.

why don't you visit their website and read up on it??

I got that quote from their website. Just seems odd to me if they are not charging for shipping in THIS promotion. Furthermore what would keep someone from sending a coin in and setting a high reserve just to get the cheep grading?

You can't sell raw coins on TT, so do you want to grade them first and then send them in? I think they are doing u a favor to help sell coins.

TT is near PCGS and they are commercial, so they must have some type of B2B relationship. Maybe they just drive them over- who knows? image

If I'm not mistaken, Teletrade is very close to PCGS and probably drop off and pickup with courier. Shag
  • Getting your raw coins graded by TT is one of the best deals in numismatica.

yes, you get to have your coins graded without any money up front ,

then there automatically placed in an auction .......

then you sell what you can and buy back the rest -

    not confusing really

This promotion has been going for close to a year now I think

The lakeshore hoard has slowed down new how quick coins get listed

you print out the sheet, make a submission, and send to them

you get charged for no gradables (PVC, questionable authenticity) and return fee shipping to you ($20?)

I am not sure if their fees are regular "AUTHORIZED DEALER" fees or if you are getting a discount

my January 21 mailings to them got sold first part of April and I got my buybacks returned last week

my fastest turnaround from me mailing to them - grade- PCGS - auction = return to me
    was lsss than 75 days

if you go NGC route, add a couple months as it is much slower
