News from the Sandbox - BassPro77 checks in from the war

I stopped at the post office on my way home from work tonight and saw that I received a letter from Bill (BassPro77). As some of you know, he was deployed to the war back in August. In fact, he shipped out 24 hours before his cards in the group submission popped. He wrote to ask me if I could send him a list of his grades because he's curious. They don't have a computer there that works, so he can't look.

He said it gets pretty cold at night and of course, he works nights. He's building a runway from the ground up. He said it's a tiny place so there isn't much else to do and that one of these days, they may even get a toilet.

He sent the letter out on October 17 and it arrived today, so it looks like the mail is taking about a month. I'm going to scan his cards and send him color prints so he can actually SEE his cards, not just the grades. I'll probably throw in a few other things that he might appreciate. image I figure if I mail stuff out in the next week or so, he'll have it by Christmas so I wanted to post his address here in case anyone else wanted to send him some holiday greetings.

Here's his info:

BILL KALISZ
1 ERHG/REDHORSE
USAF
FPO AE 09373

Thanks that's a great idea... I don't know him personally but would like to send him a holiday greeting, do you know what he collects? If I have anything I'd be happy to send him a little thank you....

This is an awesome idea. My work is sending boxes overseas to the military right now. The USO gave us a long list. I'll add Bill's name to the list and make sure he gets some good stuff in there.

Well ... I just got back from the store ... packed up a box full of GOODIES for Bill ... dropped them off at the Post Office ... they are on their way to Bill ... hoping that this will take his mind off the war for a few hours ... Everyone should try to send a box to a Soldier ... it really makes you feel good ... and what a small price to pay to have these brave young men and women risking their lives so we can have our FREEDOM. GOD BLESS each and every one of them!

    Thanks for the update.

I encourage everyone to at least send him a card. Takes minimal time and it would be greatly appreciated.
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

I just received a PM from Bill's wife telling me that he received my package and he was very appreciative. It took only one week for him to receive it. Get home safe Bill!

Here's an update for you... when this thread originally posted I put together some items and shipped it out. I was afraid it never got there as that was the last I heard. Just a little while ago mail was delivered and I received a thank you letter from Bill. He states in the letter he is hoping to come back home March/April. Says that there is limited use of the compiters as there are only 3 computers for 65 people and they are only given 15 minutes time. Which wouldn't be too badexcept it is dial up and takes forever for the forum toload. Was happy to hear this thread was started and was going to try to find it if he could do so in the alloted time.

Apaprently the Lysol, shower to shower and choclates were a big hit. Shares a tent with 7 other guys so it gets a little foul. Very nice letter and worth taking a moment to send something out if you get the chance. The letter wasn't dated and surprisingly no post marks of any type on the envelope (in place of a stamp hand written is MPS (Might be a N for No)... thought it might take a month for the letter to get to me, but I think it was quicker, so there is still time to send something out...
