Agree. Better executed altered date fake than most I've seen.

"Maybe we should have a contest one of these Sundays to see who can find the most fakes in an hour---------BigE"
Now that is one of the best ideas I have read on this forum. I would enjoy this contest even if no prize was included for the winner. With so many different collecting interests on this forum I think this contest could really uncover a bunch of fakes that go normally unnoticed and save collectors here some bucks buying fakes they did not recognize for whatever reason. I imagine the amount of fakes found in one hour multiplied by the number of participants could be huge. If we could get it pinned to the top of the forum that would be of great help. BigE you are one smart Tree. Mark
Not only is the mint mark in the wrong place, those who really know their lincolns would be quick to point out that the D Mint Mark from the Teen's coins is totally different than from the 40s D.

Ebay is a vehicle to sell whatever to whomever. They just let some cash stick when the bidding is over. I'm sure that they don't care who polices the counterfeits, so it might as well be the eagle eyes on these forums to protect budding collectors.

Actually there is a very simple reason. It's impossible.
How many auctions are going on at any time that might involve forgery, counterfeits, fakes, knock-offs, etc.? Coins are the tip of the iceberg. Shoes, watches, handbags, precious gems, software, ceramics, videos, stamps, comic books, baseball cards, sunglasses...virtually anything collectible, and all high-end fashion designer products.
It would take many hundreds, maybe thousands of dedicated employees to monitor and police all this stuff.
