So met Carolj yesterday...

PSA is doing their first cardshow in MN, and I subbed some baseball's to PSA/DNA. Carol is the one who took my order - very pleasant to deal with. Even found out we grew up in the same hometown in MN.
The auto results were ok - 3 in person ones flew by ok (Johan Santana, Joe Mauer, and Prince Fielder), 3 ebay ones were ok (Pedro Martinez!, Tom Seaver!, and Felix Hernandez!), and 3 ebay ones were not (Longoria, Lincecum and Teixeira). Overall not too bad since that is always a gamble and I bought them cheap a few years back (before Longoria and Lincecum were huge names).

As for the home town - let's just say I went to Apple Valley High School.
I look forward to meeting Carol one day....

Why in the world would she ban me???
And my name is not Gio, why do you keep calling me that?
<< <i>I will work on photos for the ones that didn't pass.

Ah cool, just wondering as I'm in Minnesota too. We'll just say I cheer for the Minnesota State University - Mankato Mavericks hockey team... that should be easy enough to figure out

Apple Valley? When I lived in Rosemount, we had "another" name for your hometown (one that I can't say here...
I'd be interested to hear how that show went overall. I lived in the Twin Cities area for 17 years, and I can't ever remember a show like that being held (except for TwinsFest).
I hope that it was a success; if they have it again, I would definitely make it back to MN to go to it.
Collecting: Topps 1952-79, Bowman 1952-55, OPC 1965-71, and Pre-War White Sox cards

How can you make a bad name out of Apple Valley? Oddly enough we didn't have the kindest things to say about folks from Rosemount.
As for the show- I don't recall a show here this big...certainly not as big as National or Chicago Sun, but much bigger than the mom and pop 15 table shows that pepper the area. I think it went well, and I would be surprised if they didn't come back.
Hi Carol!
<< <i>What's your hometown in MN? >>
I was raised in south-central MN -- where I-90 goes through...
Wish I could've met Carol. She's always so helpful.
<< <i>I don't think they promoted the event far enough out. >>
I would echo that. Would have been nice to know more in advance to plan a trip.

I stumbled onto it myself as a dealer at a small show mentioned it. Certainly wasn't advertised like I would have thought - wasn't even on Beckett's website.
I took the pics of the 'bad' balls and will post tonight.

<< <i>I'm in Woodbury and I never heard about it until I read this post.....odd? >>
Nope - I think most folks stumbled onto it from avenues other than a straight advertisement for the show. The dealer I overheard prior to the show stated the promoter was only advertising two weeks out (to confirm byronscott's post).
I will state a lot of the tables were non-card based (memorabilia/photos/jerseys) so that was disappointing. And no love for 80's basketball
Mr. Mint did look lonely, but I am not sure if he was there to buy or just people watch (he certainly had no cards out to sell).

I think they could have used bigger type in their ads to hype WHAT it was rather than to list WHO who was there--it just looked too plain. I agree about the memorabilia tables and also think they could have drawn more local dealers although I'm not sure how the tables were priced. TwinsFest draws in a huge amount of dealers so there are people around who sell stuff. I talked to my local shop and he said he saw a guy with junk trying to sell to Rosen and we speculated that Rosen must get that a lot. The NJ dealer was complaining that he wasn't selling any acrylic cases but just dollar stuff but that's probably a statement about his prices ( his and everyone else's regular toploads were more expensive than my local shop), the economy, and the demand for that type of product. He did have someone call him looking to sell him Beanie Babies. He said he buys them all (few exceptions) as long as they are all clean and no bent tags and will pay 65 cents cash each for them. If only the people who jumped all over these a few years back could have known about that future conversation.

Yes, it would have so thanks for not doing that. It was nice meeting you and others at the show.
Hi Stown.
Reading this post it seems many did not know about the show so I wanted to remind everyone to check our show schedules periodically as we add shows and sometimes drop some.
For those of you in OH I just wanted to let you all know we'll be in Strongsville this weekend taking in card submissions and offering PSA/DNA autograph authentication.

<< <i>Typing about such meeting on a message board is only slightly less creepy so snap away!
Especially the focus where I talk about subbing the baseballs to PSA/DNA - come on, you know it the subject was to drive folks in here...success.
The only reason I found out about the show was because Vito posted about it. I really wanted to go on Friday to get Mike Modano's auto, but couldn't make it.
Because it seems like the show threads just get buried and it would be great to have one that has upcoming shows and reviews of past shows, etc.
<< <i>Hi Stown. >>
mj23kg21- ready to play some ball? When's our first game?
<< <i>Wow, I didn't realize we had so many Minnesotans here. I probably drove through your town on I-90 yesterday as I drove back to Rochester from Nebraska. So are we talking Worthington, Jackson, Blue Earth, Fairmont, Albert Lea or Austin?

Did you go through Sioux City? You were close to me also.

Funny story I saw a dealer at a small local card show buying them up for $1 a piece and reselling for $2-$5 a piece lol

Yep we always go through Sioux City. Almost always eat at the McDonald's just east of the mall at the request of our 3 year old daughter. That area has grown by leaps and bounds since I last lived around there. Lived in Northeast Nebraska (Norfolk) and went to school at USD in Vermillion.

Ha - the funny thing is I told her I would be happy to tell the board she looked like Giselle Bundchen's hot sister...she nixed that. Modest, she is.
