My first Barber Half Dollar

Never had a Barber Half Dollar before - even raw... but I am doing this type set thing.
Some may not appreciate the surface corrosion on this specimen - but it sure is varied.
Anyways - here it is:

Congrats on your first Barber half. I have none.

I like the look of the reverse much more than the obverse.

Are you cracking it out to put it in an album or will you leave it in the PCGS holder?
Always looking for attractive rim toned Morgan and Peace dollars in PCGS or (older) ANA/ANACS holders!

  • Those pics dont do that coin justice. Do you mind leaving me feedback on ebay for her? I know the shipping was delayed a bit but you got that beaut for a song. My 4th favorite coin and had to part with her image
Corrosion is such a terrible word by the way. Its beautifully chaotically toned! If you ever want to sell her a year or 2 down the line please PM me ASAP.

I love that coin! Should be a monster type set if all the slots are filled with examples like that!

Yeah, I liked the chaotic toning on it too.

It's going to stay in the slab as part of this Type Set.
It's slow going, but I'll eventually get there.

Not sure that's bragging if he's shouting out words like Surface Corrosion image

The surface corrosion was me being a smart butt for the toning...

  • When I first read this thread I was confused by the idea of leaving feedback for her. I thought a 3'rd party was involved, a woman who sold the coin for mumu. It just dawned on me that the Barber Half itself was being referred to as her. I'm still not used to talking about coins as if they were feminine or masculine. I apologize for my misunderstanding.

This is one of those coins I'd really like to see in hand.

Interesting comment. You want to leave feedback for a coin you sold? And the shipping was delayed, are you going to neg yourself?

So I take it in your ebay rulebook delayed shipping means no feedback whatsoever should ever be left regardless of trasnsaction success otherwise?

I too have caught the Barber bug, and bought a few circ pieces this weekend, $10 a piece.
Your coin has a vintage antique look. The toning looks cool from here.
    Nice pickup,

Nice pick up and I'm glad you're happy with it... that's really all that matters, but don't be too surprized if you don't recoup your money if you ever sell. L

The original seller said he'd like it back.

That type of toning is not my cup of tea
and although I seriously doubt there is any
corrosion, I would not have chased that coin.

The assumption is that the original seller will be in a position to buy it back at the original price at some point in the future. Until that transaction occurs, it's only speculation.

I agree that this type of toning isn't what I'm looking for either... L

  • That's not corrossion. We call that type of toning "crusty". I like it a lot!

These might be the thoughts of Ricko, but most of us, after looking at the pics, realize that's interesting toning on the coin.

If you like it, then that's all that counts. image

Is this the beginning of the dreaded (or should I say, expensive) "Barber Bug"?
