New Registry Set--'50s BB Cello Packs

had the set added when I picked up the '54 cello pack recently. Waiting for a '55 Cello Pack to come back from being crossed over. Should make me #1--for now.

Quite the set compositon wouldn't you agree?

will you be opening those as well image

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

  • Wow,

Brooks "the vacuum cleaner" Robinson was my favorite player during my childhood years. What a great Robinson/Drysdale '59 cello pair.

Good luck on your quest for the '53--at least we now know there are some legit ones out there.

Good run, thanks for sharing w/Pics.

Of all the 1950s cellos you've seen, what percentage of them have the Topps guild logo on front?
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

    Cello packs are so cool.

I think you and Anthony should help answer the question of whether there are better cards in 50's wax or 50's cello by opening up a few!

Tony, unfortunately we don't have the range of emoticons to express my response, but will try and convey that to you at another time.
And here I thought you were worthy of being an unopened collectorimage

    Anthony,

You know I am kidding. I would never open old vintage packs especially my own!

Heck even with all the 75 mini wax that has hit the market, most of mine is sealed and staying that way.
By the way, prices are starting to creep back up on that stuff too!

    thank you gents.

Interesting story on the '59 cellos with BRobby and Drysdale. Got them in the late '80s from Rosen. Sent them to GAI originally and they were rejected. I then called and told them no, they were good and they later relented and slabbed them. As with some of my other packs, these were crossed over a while ago.

I currently have 40 packs waiting for cross and slabbing at PSA.

As to the Guild packs, not many. I only know of a few. Here are pics of the Guild verison front and back. I DO NOT own this pack. Interestingly, the Guild packs have the side to side seal, not the top/bottom as in most cello packs '57'-61. Most people feel that if there is a cello from '57-61 that is side to side sealed it is no good. I say, what about the Guild packs?

I don't know if you meant it that way, but that is funny..image

Awesome packs. You won't get too much competition with that set. Didn't they issue '52 cellos? I thought Mark Murphy had a photo of one in his book.

exactly as it happened with GAI. Keith was authenticating at the time. I had to send him proof of purchases before he would agree to slab it.

They did not make '52 cellos that I am aware of

Rosen's "find" was 52 cello's no? Also, from time to time there are Exhibit cellos still floating around
  • flatfoot816flatfoot816 Posts: 2,194 ✭✭✭
Rosen's find was wax not cello

I do not count Exhibits as the are not main stream
  • Moving to the top, both for correct use of the apostrophe and such a great set

Nice comment! '50s rather than 50's. This is almost appreciated as much as properly using "than" rather than "then". image

Congratulations to the OP on the pickup and best wishes with the crossovers. Though I don't collect these, that's a dope set.

There was a picture of an old woman with a silver tray and it looked liked there was 3 wax packs wrapped as cellos, course I cant seem to find the picture image No red back or black cellos either?

    52 wax bricks

Also, I thought Mr. mint's find was vending or like a cut card case but stacked neatly?

he says it was in the original case of 52's, but I think it was an opened wax case, had 75 Mantles
