2008 Donruss Gridiron Gear football. Anyone familiar with this issue?

Just trying to find out how to distinguish between the retail and hobby versions for 2008 Donruss Gridiron Gear football.

Got a rookie card trying to correctly catalog before boxing up.

Anyone here buy/sell modern football?

Any help would be appreciated.
I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.

No, but I should... Or at the very least I should have an up-to-date baseball almanac (I have the 2007 edition).

Gotta be at least one modern football collector around here able to solve the mystery.

    Please

Since no one could help with the rookie card aspect, I went to sportlots.com and bought a couple of base cards I needed for one of my player collections--one listed as "retail" and the other not.

Both arrived--both look identical to each other.

Either the sellers are incorrectly listing their inventory, or there is no difference between "Retail" and "Hobby" versions for the base set.

I wonder why Beckett lists both versions on their player checklists if there is no way to distinguish between the two--what can us compulsive player collectors do when the checklist says we need both versions if we are building a master set?

Has anyone got any knowlege on this modern football set that they can share?

Can't help, but here is a nice scan of a Peyton from the set. Maybe you can find good scans of the other version online as Peyton is popular.

I do not recall this forum ever being able to help me with a modern football question.

Thanks for the scan. I went back to Beckett website, and in the set checklists, they still do not list any pictures of the "retail" version, and the one picture they list of a hobby version is too small to really examine.

So far, all pictures and cards in hand look the same.

You are correct, "modern football experts" either don't exist here, or if they do exist here--don't feel the desire to speak up.image

The hobby version rookies have foil while the retail is just a white background

    colts900--thanks for the info.

Are there any differences in the base card non-rookies? All the ones I have bought or seen appear to have the mirror foil background when held to a light--never seen any with a white background.
