So, how many billions of one cent coins will be produced this year?

A combined total of both Philly and Denver gives it 572.03 million so far and it's only March.
They're pumpin' out those Pres dollars with over 100 million so far.
No Jeffersons produced and only 19 million Roosevelts from Philly (yes, only)
And a little over 42 million quarters combined from both mints.
Linkage
Can anyone enlighten me with why it would be logical to produce this many one cent coins each year? I just don't see it.

In theory, they produce coins to match orders from the banks. I guess people still take their cents, throw them jars, and forget about them.

Ahhhh you got me there
<< <i>Whatever the number is, subtract the 1 million which will go into collections, and the results is how many too many are produced. >>
I have a feeling without a household limit and a guestimated production figure of the P&D set from the mint of at least 300,000 this one million number will be surpassed just from the rare mint wrapping

I was thinking the same thing. I bet a lot of people are starting to hoard the 95% copper thinking it'll be legal to melt one day.
<< <i>I'd like to think the mint will create enough so that the banks won't order any 2011 cents, thus making the 2011 the KEY in the Zincoln series.
or something like that. >>
Ahh Joe I like the way you think. Maybe they won't even produce any for 2011? Now that'd be cool. You wouldn't see anyone but the hardcore Lincoln collectors get upset like many were with the Silver Eagles.
