I did not know the the Mint was going to issue a collector's version of the 5 oz. silver coasters and that all of the bullion coins would be issued at the same time (mid year 2010). Maybe it will be a proof.....

I'm not sure you're interpreting the story correctly. They clearly say "As a side note, there is a possibility that numismatic versions of the coins will be produced at some point, and sold directly by the Mint." So it's just a possibility.
Aren't "twice" and "double" the same thing? Wonder who authored that? Just sounds funny!
I'm a buyer if they're close to spot or with a mild premium, say $2/oz or so tops.

The about areas of the mentioned coins:
Silver Dollar (Morgan,Peace) - 1.77sq in < one ounce
American Silver Eagle - 2 sq in one ounce
ATB 3" coasters - 7.1 sq in five ounces
This adds credence to "I don't see how they could be 'paper thin' at 5oz and 3" across."
Should be pretty cool.
