I think my guess is worth $1,000, too!

Who really cares, A nice coin you can afford is a nice coin you can afford. Nothing else matter unless you're talking resale, which in that case dealer going about upselling will always persist. It at least gives collectors something to fire back at them when they talk about how great a given coin is.

i'm puzzled by how many dealers and collectors are reacting to the whole thing. to be honest, a one point differential in grade is a very small thing with regard to the different aspects a coin might have. to consider parts of a grade point and get all worked up about it is ridiculous. it highlights the simple fact that many have resisted admitting openly for years bow------it is really all about the money and not about the coin.

so i drone on and on..................i wish PCGS would concern themselves with less designations instead of more.

If you control the grading, you control the market. If you let others control the grading, with stickers, PQ labels, coin doctoring, fake slabs, etc., you cede control of the market and make yourself less relevant. PCGS is trying to wrestle back its control of the coin market. Smart move, IMO.

What about genuine holders re-shaped into "drinking coasters" ? I still think that's a great idea for "dreck" in slabs.

So either IGWT casts a big shadow....or he's likening Laura to an "uninitiated collector" -- I'm not sure which. image

I am admittedly awake for more hours than I can remember so I am not responsible for anything I say from this point, but shouldn't the collectors control - make - the market? Decide what a coin is worth? I mean, we do to a large degree, but many are buying plastic and inserts and stickers? The field is getting muddied. The grading companies have the power by some sort of default. People, collectors, need to know how to grade themselves. It was long ago - late 70's early 80's - but I recall the emphasis was the authenticity, not so much the little number. I recall a Barber coin from some big series of auctions, a dimew perhaps, graded to be the finest upper grade - yet it seemed to appear AT and have a few too many ticks. How, when do we say collectively "NO MORE!" followed with "RETURN TO RAW!"? I know the answer is how you spend your money. You take it from there.

    Best,
    Eric

I predicted Laura's thought, I didn't join in it. But, I agree that I just might be a most excellent alt for Laura. image

You will have to learn to misspell and have poor grammar.
