    Larry,

I don't think there is anything accurate out there. Numismatic News has some listed in their Coin Market, and there are some in the Cherrypickers' Guides, but I have not been able to buy at the prices listed. I have paid too much many times, but others are bidding on many of those same coins which are not really out there. Many of the dimes in my set are the only one or one of only a few graded.

You could search in Heritage archives or Teletrade for coins that have sold.

There are some books and websites with price guides, Some of the prices seem way off. Errors are a very unique field as many errors are one-of-a-kind. Many have multiple errors on one coin. Eye appeal has a lot to do with the price as well. I have a really good feel for error prices as I have followed the prices for over tens years now. Watch error auctions on ebay and after a while you may get an idea of what certain types of errors are worth. Good luck, it is a lot of work.

The major grading companies do not issue pop reports for errors. There are a couple of OK price guides out there...but like all coins....they are just guides, and with error coins this is especially true. If you specialize in them you have a huge advantage.

Concerning varieties; All three major TPG's have available their respective variety populations. A cumulative
total of the three for a single variety would get you pretty close to the rarity/scarcity of that variety. ANACS does not require membership, but you must sign up. PCGS and NGC both require paid membership for access to their pop reports. Keep in mind, that since PCGS started grading and attributing varieties, there have been
large numbers of ANACS holdered varieties cracked out or crossed over. Probably the same for NGC to a lesser extent. Pricing varieties seems to follow scarcity since there is no historical data available for sales. Heritage and Teletrade archive and can be a good source of past sales history. I noticed the other day that the price for a 1909-s/s FS-1501 MS64BN had increased in the price guide. I happen to know from research that there is not a single example attributed at PCGS in this grade. Why would they go up if none have changed hands? As time passes, there will be more and more varieties change hands at auctions and will be reflected in price guides such as PCGS. For now, you must be diligent with your research and know your facts before jumping into a major purchase. JMHO Shag
