Little bit of customer service from PCGS

I submitted a few coins at the last Baltimore show and one of them was what I considered to be a under graded Key date; my 1878cc Trade dollar(my best coin in all honesty) which you can see in my sig-line. Compare it to the other coins also graded in the XF range on my showcase and you can kind of see where I am going, true the luster is hard to see in photos but it's there esp on the rev. I sent it in for grade review which PCGS declined to upgrade which ticked me a little but when it came back it had a note attached from HomerunHall braking down their opinion about the coin stating that "The coin is a little dark but details of 45, DH". Now I don't really agree with that either as it is dark but not a heavy tone and this die pair does come weakly struck and the coin is very nice but I appreciate that they took the time to let me know where they stand instead of just sending it back. It's how I would treat people if the shoe was on the other foot. Thanks PCGS.

to rethink my grading on these. If it's a 40 your AU55 is really a very generous grade. But the '78
seems to be consistent with your '76 1/1 but much better than your '76 DDR and both are XF40's.

<< <i>Nice to have the note. Yes a bit dark but it's still a bit better that 40 in my opinion. Guess I'll have

I have looked at hundreds of these in all types of different plastic and from my take the 73cc is typical of a well struck 40. Hints of luster and good eye appeal so that is my base line. the 76cc type 1 is net graded for its heavy tone and bad over all look. The DDR is just over graded as it has detail of a week 40 but it has been lightened by a dip which I think they upped the grade because of it which I find discouraging, I put that at MA35 but that's me. The AU55 is a bit of a nice grade although the rims are full and the luster booming it is a bit dark and not a good strike even though there is little wear, I put that one at AU53 and I put the 78cc as a tweener between 45 and 50 with an edge going to 45 due to a couple of factors. Still I respect PCGS opinion and I think it is at the very least all there as a 40 which keeps it out of dreck status
