NewP's- Österreich 500 Schilling

Just picked these two proofs up this afternoon:

Österreich 500 Schilling 1982 PP- 825 Jahre Mariazell Basilica

Built in the 14th and 15th centuries but with a superb baroque interior, are the three towers on its western front. The church houses the Magna Mater Austriae ("Great Mother of Austria") in its so-called Gnadenkapelle. The holy image is a small wooden Marian statue from the 13th century.

Österreich 500 Schilling 1981 PP- 800 Jahre Verduner Altar in Klosterneuberg

The so-called Verdun Altar is one of the most important examples of medieval goldsmith art. It was manufactured by Nicholas of Verdun around 1180, and is located in Klosterneuburg Abbey in Lower Austria.

Very nice pickups and write up as to the historical context.

Wow, those church interiors are so over the top they're almost gaudy.

Beautiful, though. As is the coin.

Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.
