Are there any PCGS Secure Plus coins yet on the market?

RYKRYK Posts: 35,800 ✭✭✭✭✭
I see none at ebay (with the exception of some Keyword spamming--"PCGS Plus"), none at Heritage, and none in the inventories of my usual dealer sites. Has anyone uncovered any?

There should be, but I can't find any. Perhaps PCGS was holding them until the official announcement, and now they're being shipped out back to the owners.

They are available. Some of the newly graded coins made their way to the floor at the ANA.

I saw some nice bust halfs at ANA with the gold shields on them. At the announcement, they said something like 2000 coins had gone through the formal screening/grading during the run-up to the announcement, from collectors.

RYK: Yes there are. Here's the link to an 1873 PCGS MS-65+ Seated Liberty Dollar listed by Legend on Collector's Corner:

hERE is the same coin before it went plus.

    When it was just CACed.

So the plus is worth about 10 grand in this case. image

David Lawrence had 10 or 12 in their case at the ANA show in Fort Worth. If you have a spare $400,000 or so, you can buy this one!

I read the description for the 1927 saint.
"ONLY 8 have been graded MS65+
    NONE have ever GRADED HIGHER!"

    There are over 5k ms66's and a dozen 67's.

    Let the hype begin image

    Exactly. image

I guess he means that there are no Secure Plus'es (yet) grade higher. image

Interesting thing...Barry's got non-plus Morgans (new holders...ones that didn't make the cut) going for ~20% under the base PCGS price guide.

<< <i>how are Stupler's prices compared to the same graded coins without the +? I suspect a 65+ is selling closer to the 66 than 65. >>

Actually, the generic 27 Saint in 65+ is selling for a little more than a straight 65. His two generic straight 65s are $2500-2550 and the 1927 65+ is $2700.

It's hard to see a trend or pattern with so little a sample size.

"... an 1873 PCGS MS-65+ Seated Liberty Dollar listed by Legend on Collector's Corner..."

    This is disgusting.....image

Legend states on their website they will only sell CAC coins. Then they go and get this coin a Secure +, removing the CAC, and reprices the coin $10,000 higher!! So much for Legend sayaing buy the coin and not the plastic! Total greed in my opinion!

Didn't Laura say they would only BUY plus coins already made and not try and make them themselves??

I just noticed that CRO has some Security + coins on their lastest early bird e-mail. These will show up on their website in the next few days I imagine.

We have two in this auction, to the best of my knowledge. It's possible more may crop up, but I'm guessing it will be our Long Beach auction when they really start showing up.
