ANA Money Show in Fort Worth TX bourse walk around

dsessomdsessom Posts: 2,435 ✭✭✭✭✭
I attended the ANA Money Show in Fort Worth, and brought my video camera with me. I did a walk around the bourse on Thursday just after the "Big One" announcement. It was my first major show, so I was very excited to be there (hence the video). image

Anyway, I post it on YouTube for anyone interested in watching.

ANA Money Show in Fort Worth TX bourse walk around video.

Enjoy!

I attended the show Saturday morning and by the time I left that afternoon the crowd had increased much more than your video showed.

That was also the largest show (number of dealers) that I ever attended. There were a few complaints here on the boards and from a few of the dealers that I spoke with about the location. I had a great time and appreciate the ANA for having the show in Fort Worth.

Thanks for taking the time to post the vid.

Location? I am surprised to hear that. I felt the location was nice. Then again, I was not set up at the show.

What were the negative remarks about the locale?

    Pros i thought:
    Pretty Close to airport

    Hotel RIGHT across the street

Parking garage also across the street (somewhat filled tho)

From car-check in-bourse floor was ez & fast!

Bourse floor was compact but not crowded

Area around convention center was safe (looked it anyway)

I couldn't help but notice the trash bin near the Royalty Coins table that was overflowing with pizza boxes and other refuse.

It could have been worse, but I wasn't a huge fan of the venue. The facilities weren't exactly modern and cellular and 3G service were practically nonexistent inside the bourse room. I don't know if the cellular signals were being blocked, but wifi was available from the convention center for only $99 per day. That's a travesty and shame on the convention center.

The following observations are solely my opinions. Others may feel differently.

The convention center at 1201 Houston Street is almost 30 miles from DFW airport and nearly 40 miles from Love Field. That isn't close by by any means. At the next ANA convention in Boston later this year the airport is 5 miles from the convention center or a 15 minute ride on the T subway.

The convention host hotel, the Omni Hotel, was directly across the street and very convenient. I didn't stay there but the hotel looked very nice.

The parking was fairly convenient and the parking garage across the street was charging $10 per day. That isn't too bad. There were plenty of cars trying to park but I never had a problem with finding an available space.

The ANA conventions vary in size depending on the venue. This convention was actually larger than usual for a spring ANA. The floor wasn't ever crowded but the ANA shows do feature wide, expansive aisles between tables. Wide aisles are a very good thing.

I've definitely seen much worse elsewhere, but the area around the convention center appeared to be rather deserted at any given time. There wasn't much foot traffic in the area and the streets were seldomly crowded with cars. The area appeared rather drab and uninspiring. There weren't many dining options around the immediate area and the Stockyards were a few miles away.

Del Frisco's and Ruth Chris Steak House were right across and beside the Hotel. When you go to a unfamiliar town finding good food is always a challenge.

Maybe some of the complaining wasn't that the show was at the Fort Worth Convention Center. It might have been that the show was in Fort Worth, Texas. image
Being from Texas, I thought it was a good choice.
One dealer told me the only reason he came back to Texas was because it was an ANA show.
I had a little trouble finding a place to park, but other than that little hitch, I thought the location was great.

I agree that finding good food in an unfamiliar town isn't always easy. I saw Del Frisco's and Ruth's Chris after the fact. I've been to Ruth's Chris in various cities around the country and they're always great. I didn't get a chance to try Del Frisco's but the menu looked enticing and the place was packed. Other than those two places there didn't appear to be many other options around downtown.

There was a Starbucks directly across the street, and that's the most important thing! Hahaha! image
