is there such a place that sells 'factory second' coins?

....we see places that sell (or claim to) factory second furniture or "ding and scratch" appliances at much lower

prices than blemish free new products. are there any coin dealers that sell spotted or nicked or pvc coins

at lower prices? if there isn't any place, seems to me there would probably be a market for such a thing. look

at how many proof sets or mint sets coming out of the mint that could be sold for reduced prices. many collectors

would buy them to cherry pick the decent stuff for resale or perhaps have something slabbed in the hope of

making money at an initial lower cost product. just wondering. image

I consider most of the stuff that is not certified on eBay to be that stuff.

The whole world of coins are factory seconds, you have to wade through them to find the good ones. Its the name of the gameimage-----------------------BigE

....i mean like the mint. they sell a 'new' proof set or mint set that is clearly a scratch and dent type set YET they

charge full price for it. sure you can return it for exchange BUT you may get another un-knew condition set. i figured

why not just buy them at a reduced price like you can with other products? of course there would have to be a store

that would take on the venture and sell them. i thought people would certainly take an interest, if they had that option. image

What they can do is put them in circulation and cut cost on minting more and then we can get them at a discount but it will not happen. They are not that effective.

More than a few dealers stock problem coins. I don't know of any that specialize in them. Unfortunately, a good many dealers have asking prices that are close to the full price for no-problem coins. Developing relationships with dealers and/or other collectors over time, is the best way to get better deals. However, that will be true for the problem coins, the average coins, and the better coins. It will also tend to take time and money.
