the 1861 O is clearly the better coin for the grade
  • I agree, however they do look identical.

    I also prefer the 1861-O.
    When in doubt, don't.

The 1861-O looks way better from here but be wary. It may be net graded for something that doesn't show up in the pix.

The 61-O is EF45 in my mind. Very well struck without the flatness on the eagle's left leg. It may have been knocked down for the small chip off the rim at 10:00 on the obverse and/or for the toning. Edited to add that his VF35 grade for the 61-O is another head-scratcher for me. The 75 looks like VF35 to me. I don't see how these coins can be graded equally.

The '61-O looks undergraded unless there's something the image isn't telling us, and they saw fit to "net grade" it down because the problems weren't enough to BB -- err, "Genuine" -- it...

The 1861-O appears to have effectively been net graded due to the rim problem and generally unattractive appearance of the fields. It has the sharpness of an XF.

The 1876 is a rather ordinary looking VF30-35 coin.

Neither one does anything for me.

The 76' looks like an original skin VF35 coin...
The 61' o looks like an XF45 dipped/re toned coin (not original) in my opinion...
I would choose the 1876 if the price is identical.
