1965 Dime Struck on 90% Silver Planchet

So, about 8 months ago, I was working in Montgomery and a coin dealer friend of mine called me on the phone to ask about a dime he got in a group he purchased. He described it to me and wondered if it was real. I told hime some things to do with it and by the time he was finished, I was 100% convinced he had a genuine error.
Well, he finally sent it to NGC and got the results today. The coin graded AU58 1965 dime on 90% silver planchet!
I was very happy for him. A sure winner. I will post pictures when I see him in a couple of weeks, but wanted to throw this out there. There still are some cool things to be found out and about.

It was purchased from an old timer serious collector. The collector had it in his collection since the 1960s. He paid well for it (e.g. did not go el-cheap-o on the person).
Hoard the keys.
I mentioned awhile ago I would have thought more 1965 and 1966
90% silver coins should be out there, but they seem to be extremely rare

I believe there are about a dozen know but they seem to be popping up a little
here and there. There are no known 1964 dimes struck on a clad planchet and
only a single 1964 quarter struck on a clad planchet. There are also several (~8)
1965 quarters struck on silver.
I consider these more important than mere transitional errors because they were
bing struck at the same time and because the transition was such a big one.

Heritage has at least two of them in their archives...

Cool.
I'd never heard of them.

<< <i>Why didn't you send it to our friends at PCGS? You're posting it here? >>
fcloud, maybe you missed it in my post, but as BigE stated, the coin is not owned by me. I simply examined the coin for its current owner who repsects my opinion when it comes to error coins in particular. I suggested he send it in for grading, but the choice was his to send it to NGC.
As to your question about why I am posting it here? I figured we all love our hobby and when a great rarity comes up and has a chance to educate the population, then why not do it. I could give two rats about whose slab it resides in. No one ever said we could not discuss coins in another grader's holder here on these forums. You certainly did not have to reply if you did not like what you read.

We all do like coins. I didn't read it was smoeone else's until after my post. Sorry I guess my post does look a bit too questioning. I have coins in other holders, too, so I'm not completely biased. LOL. It is a really cool find and look forward to the image when you get the coin back.
Also, I didn't know if there was an advantage to slabbing error with one company or the other and was more looking for that type of response.
