Not necessarily; beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Hmmm.....it will be interesting the first time a PCGS+ graded coin does not get a CAC sticker, let alone a CAC gold sticker!

I think that CAC will have to base the sticker on the grade. A + designation is a new grade.

In a MS65 holder a 65.0 coin should get no sticker and a 65.4 coin should get a sticker.

    In a MS65+ holder a 65.5 should get no sticker and a 65.9 should get a sticker.

IF a CAC coin will not cross to PCGS from NGC should a PCGS coins with a plus automatically get a CAC sticker?

The flip side of this is that NGC crosses only about 40% or less of PCGS coins. Therefore shouldn't NGC CAC coins automatically get a PCGS + ?

Is there a published definition of what this new "+" signifies on the mint state or proof scale? My gut feel says that a 65.7, 65.8, and 65.9 coins would all qualify...maybe even a 65.6 as well.

CAC simply has different bean standards than PCGS or NGC. Many small imperfections pass with PCGS or NGC, while CAC refuses to overlook the tiny imperfections. I think most coins refused the CAC sticker fail for reasons other than excessive wear for the grade on the label.
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.

Why does a PCGS plus graded coin need to go to CAC?

Why does one need to buy an NGC coin, then send it to CAC, then cross it to PCGS, and now hope to get a plus and then send it to CAC?

If it is plastic with the CAC sticker that is desired just buy it to begin with.

JA has already responded to this, with his March 12 Press Release.

Excerpt: ..."According to Albanese, CAC will continue to evaluate submissions, and determine whether to award stickers to those coins, strictly in the context of the basic numerical grades assigned by either PCGS or NGC. He said it will disregard any additional descriptive words or symbols."...

The "+" will not be considered, only the underlying numerical grade.

CAC makes its definition of "Nice".
PCGS makes its definition of "Plus".

The two won't necessarily be the same language, or even translate.
    When in doubt, don't.

I have has NGC coins with a sticker not cross to PCGS so I would say of they did not cross without a plus they for sure wont get a plus.

I just started a new thread on this. If you take what PCGS says on their website at face value, it would seem than only 65.8 and 65.9 coins would qualify for the "+"
  • No, this now creates ONE more tier differential; PCGS + coins with AND without CAC stickers. Can't you just SMELL the revenue! PCGS is smarter than you think! This is better (for third party grading) than trying to convince the US market that it needs a 100 point system!

coin grading is still subjective. CAC doesn't change that. PCGS Plus Service doesn't change that.
