One Fuzzy Bear's opinion on the "BIG ONE"

1. The plus for certain grades is welcome and long overdue
2. We will have to wait and see what pricing scale develops
for the plus coins. It will be interesting to find out what the ratio
is between plus coins and non plus coins.
3. The extra digits in the new numbering system opens the possibilities
for many more new and interesting developments.
4. The security measures are just a start and we should be able to look
forward to more and better security devices to secure coins and thwart
phony slabs with phony coins.
5. It seems as though PCGS has awoken after a long slumber and intends
to energetically defend its position as the number one grading service.
6. The era of crack out artists could be coming to an end ,as the new system
will eventually be able to identify coins and previous grades even if they are
out of their holders. cracked. I do not really know if this is good or bad for PCGS
or collectors. We will have to see how it works out.
7. As for more business for PCGS....DUH. A profitable bottom line is always necessary
to maintain ones stability and further growth in the industry. Nothing wrong with that
as long as services ,to benefit collector's needs and wishes is a part of it.
8. While some may be disappointed by the news, I can see an entire vista
of improvements and innovations that will be coming down the line in the
coming years.Time , itself, is the sole determinant on how successful these
changes will be. Smirk as one will, I see an avalanche of regrades in search of
the plus designation. While a plus may not have the panache of a gold bean, it
goes a long way in meeting collectors needs. Nice coins in high conditions as well
as the super AU-58s for the common man collections will almost be required to have
the plus designation for extra points for the CU sets. No mention of bonus
points has been made, but I suspect that they will soon be here.
9. The Plus grade only comes with the new upgraded (expensive) service. Since it takes
into consideration both technical aspects ,as well as overall appearance, it would appear
10. I do believe that the Forum Members pretty well pegged the Big One. They picked up the
extra digits on the code, the Plus designation, the identification of past graded coins. I thing
That the Forum Members deserve Bear's coveted, "Growl of Approval".
that the plus would be more valuable then the CAC green bean. I do not know where values
will work out between the plus and the gold bean though.

This is not the end of the line, it appears only the beginning to a
well thought out continuing program of changes and improvements.

If I was always right, I would be rich, instead of a Forum Member.

<< <i>I think that the overall plan that PCGS has implemented is a good idea. I am just a bit disapointed that leaves out many of the collectors out there. At the same point I understand why they are just doing it for the high end coins and collectors. What they are doing is just the beginning, and not everything all at once. >>
Until they include lower priced coins this has no effect on most of us.
I am not rich. I do not even own a $5000 coin, much less a $20,000 coin.
I do own several high grade coins, but I have never spent more than $1200 on a single coin.
Would I like this on some of my coins? Yes.
Do I feel it is worth the current fees? No.
Until the average man has reasonable access, I feel the "Big One" is a flop.
A world where the two best TPGs and CAC ,will compete to
see who can get the market place to place the highest values
on their products." To the victor goes the spoils ,as well as the fees".
