After today's announcement, have you gotten nostalgic about when you collected raw coins only.......

........... either from pocket change, or from dealers, or from other collectors?

I like some of the threads posted today that have pictures of coins only, be they raw or slabbed.

Checking out those threads is more fun that checking out the threads commenting on stars, + signs, green and gold beans, stickers, laser fingerprinting, etc.

I have some slabbed coins, have cracked a few coins out of slabs, have a number of raw coins and just enjoy being a hobbiest who collects with discretinary money [what little there is now daysimage] along with getting to know other collectors and dealers, face to face or online.

How about you?

Nothing to be nostalgic about for me. Most of my collection is Raw and I still scoop coins from change and plug holes in albums and folders. It's filling the empty spaces that has been the fuel of my collecting style. But I do love PQ specimens from time-to-time. Afterall, it is a hobby. If the slabbed, graded and CACed pieces bring a profit some day, all the better. But I don't go out of my way to pick 'em up that way.

No, I am not at all nostalgic because those were the days when I collected whizzed coins, counterfeit coins, thumbed coins, etc. Those were the days when I bought a coin marked as BU only to be told that the coin was EF when I wanted to sell it and then spy the coin once again marked as BU in the dealer's case. And those were the days that I could not let my young kids handle the coins for fear they would drop and damage them, put their fingerprints on the coins, sneeze on the coins, or otherwise harm them. No, I very much appreciate PCGS and the idea of encapsulating coins.
