1860 Trime question and a general question on CBH (large pics)

On the Trime, look at the 5 oclock position on the obverse, there is a rim ding, nick whatever you want to call it. Would that make it ungradable at PCGS?

On the CBH, I have noticed alot of coins with the cresent shaped mark in front of the face. What is the reason for this?

As always, thanks for your help.

a rim nick will grade unless it is pressed through and visible on the opposite side of the coin and not hidden by the gasket. It can alter the grade lower though

BTW what the heck is going on with the photobucket posts? I posted image too today and all that url garbage came up also?????

I can't tell how badly the rim is nicked in your images. However, on the CBH it appears you are looking at metal flow influenced by the reverse design upon striking at the Mint.

    Thanks for the quick answers.

The nick is not deep at all, just pressed in a little. Does not go to the other side.

I was thinking metal flow, but didnt know if that is what it looked like.

    Thanks again.

Generally, the larger the coin the more forgiving PCGS is on marks. The one on your Trime is not significant and it should grade all else equal. The bust half cresent halo is the wing from the reverse (as minted).
It is not that life is short, but that you are dead for so very long.
