my first thought upon seeing the coin was that it looked like it got treated just like Pacino did at the end of "Scarface" but after reading your post, I see yours is the better analogy image

Thanks for all the nice comments, it really is a very nice piece.

I like the "Tin Foil" comment as tin foil is very soft and malleable and Nickel is a very hard metal image

Not arguing with your characterization as eye appealing, but will require me to adjust my mental definition of "eye appealing"...

I would be very curious to hear Fred's thoughts on this piece. I remember a thread about a 1964 Lincoln, which was certified, and Fred thought was not genuine. If I remember correctly, Fred said someone counterfeited a bunch of errors from that era. I'm not saying yours is, but I would be interested to hear Fred's thoughts.

    FWIW, I think it's a neat piece.

The coin in the OP looks like a legitimate error. There is a similar triple-struck 1964 cent in a TPG holder which is questionable, if you compare the two the three strikes on the cent are very crisp with little metal flow at the edge of the O/C strikes. On this nickel you can see definite metal flow and severe distortion of the underlying strikes consistent with the high pressures of a genuine strike.
