Got dreck?

Take this simple test
1. Have you ever won a coin sight-unseen in a Heritage auction?
2. Do you try always to find the lowest price example?
3. Is putty something that the other guy is worried about?
4. Is bright right?
5. Do you look at the holder before you look at the coin?
6. Do you look at the price tag before you look at the coin?
7. Will you buy anything if the price is right?
8. Would you pass on something that you really want if it is 5% more than you are willing to pay?
9. Do dealers often pass on your coins when you try to sell to them at shows?
10. Do dealers actually grimace when they see your coins gor sale?
Score one point for each "yes" answer and two points if you answered "yes" to #10
If you scored zero, you are unlikely to have dreck.
If you scored 1 point or greater, you are likely to have dreck.

Eye appeal is way important to me.
But I also consider a 5 dollar error coin not be dreck if it is a nice example and it fits into my error "type set"

from the 1800's -- most of them are less than pristine. However, they are loaded with
history, being a tangible connection with another era. I will pass them along to my
children or grandchildren, along with the stories I have heard about them. Who knows,
perhaps a new collector or two will emerge.
Anyone want to condemn these pieces as "dreck?" If so, why would you do that?
That describes the first 10 years of my coin collecting existence. I never paid full book value for anything. In fact, I would not go over greysheet bid on most things.
<< <i>Again with the dreck discussion. I have a number of coins that belonged to relatives

If by "dreck" some are trying to describe an over graded coin then I say please choose another word as "dreck" in this use doesn't make sense.

If by "dreck" you mean a junk, worthless coins then yes I probably do have some.
As well as collecting higher grade coins I occasionally buy cheaper or worthless coins if I like the design or the history attached to them.
Say at car boot sales etc. and I don't really care if I make a profit or loss on them. In fact I sometimes give them away for free to friends, family or my nephew if they show interest in them.
Since starting to collect my individual coin budget has gone up but we all have to start somewhere and one man's dreck is another man's treasure.
<< <i>Sold most of my "dreck" only gonna buy quality and eye-appealing coins from now on. >>
How much are you asking for the 1812?
