What if Anaconda's Prediction is right..........

And PCGS starts using half grades? It happened with PSA (sports cards) and many collectors left the market. What do you think will happen with the coin market?

All coins kept in bank vaults.

I'm not advocating a half grade system.

I think you answered your own question. Thank god that PCGS would not be that stupid.
In that case, half of all of the previously graded coins would be likely upgrades. In which case, everyone wins!
Doggedly collecting coins of the Central American Republic.

did they expand the total possible grades from 9 to 19? yikes
too many special issue cards. If everything turns into a unique card what do you collect?
Obviously coin collecting has been going on FAR longer than card collecting, so there are many more experts and collectors who have been in the business for a LONG time. They will most likely not be affected. I think the new collectors may be forced out when buying raw or overgraded coins.
Well hopefully none of it will happen, we will have to wait and see.
So lets think again hypothetically. A coin is purchased from a highly reputable dealer as a 65. You agree the coin is a 65, and you pay strong money for it. Now for some rare coins, we all know there can be a HUGE price difference between a 64 and a 65. You submit the coin. PCGS does think its nice, but not exactly a 65, but its also not bad enough to be a 64. So you have a 64.5. Now how will these coisn be valued? An average of a 64 and 65? In that case, the collector will lose a decent amount of money. Now you can say a way to avoid this is buy graded coins already. But if this new system is put into place, I think the crossovers will drop drastically. I would rather have a 64 than a 63.5 imho.

people won't submit coins for this tier of service if the potential gain in value doesn't justify it,,, actually, I take that back, people certify coins now that aren't worth it... it will be a boon to PCGS> lots of folks will submt for more "accurate" grading.
