I love the irrelevant comparisons. I bought a new computer and had to learn to use it. This is not comparable. Now if someone came in and took your old computer and left you a new one, and you had to learn to use it. This would be comparable.
Sure it is, on multiple levels. My old computer is failing; that's why I purchased a new one. In fact, it is very similar because I have a time window while both are functional to learn to use the new one. Frankly, the computer is more vital to my life and lifestyle than the Heritage search function. If I had no ability to use a computer, I would have serious issues with work, home finances, and integral personal and lifestyle functions. If Heritage went away completely, I would find another place to search for coins and price history. No biggie.
Learning something new is often challenging. I guess some of us have limited ability to do so. Frankly, by the comments on this and other issues, I am not sure how some of the folks here handle it when the supermarket rearranges the fruit and puts the bananas in a different location. Do they stop eating bananas? Do they boycott the store? Do they complain about on a fruit and vegetables message board?

I can relate to this, since yesterday morning I came downstairs and discovered that my wife, with no consultation with me at all had moved the bread maker.
At first I was taken aback, but after several minutes, I concluded that this new location was extremely suitable, and before too long I am positive that she will again be cranking out some of that delicious Irish soda bread.

This is a business. They are there to serve their customers and when they decide the customer should have no opinion on how they are served they will go the way of other customer unfriendly businesses.
i have a hunch that they are serving their customers with this change and it is entirely within the realm of possibility that Heritage has weighed the "opinions" of those customers and made this decision. it's like the old saying....................You can please some of the people all the time and all of the people some of the time, but you'll never please all the people all the time.

Just a question.
I expect that you will eventually start to understand and then use with regularity, the new Heritage Search Tool as I suspect that you are simply getting in your way.
And yes, you really should change the thread title to: "My final final thread on Heritage's new free search feature. (Kinda, Maybe, Sorts)"
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.
Hello all, I am going to try and explain one more time why I dont like the new Heritage search format. It has absolutely nothing to do with it being new. I deal with new things all the time. It is the nature of my business to face new challenges daily. What I dont like about it is simply this. I just logged into the Heritage web site and clicked on the auction button at the top. OK, the auction page popped up with all the auctions in a row on the left. At the top of the first icon there is a link to click on which says "browse all auctions". OK, I clicked on that link. Up pops a list of coins and a number in brackets out to the side of the list. OK, I want to see the SMS Washington quarters. I see the link and the number 1 in brackets. OK, that means one coin, right? Any normal person would think so and in fact it does. Heritage only has one SMS Washington quarter in all their auctions at this moment. But here is the kicker and why I HATE the new search feature. I click on that link and I expect to see the "one" coin available. But no, I get SEVEN pages of all different kinds of quarters! This absolutely infuriates me. Now I have to wade through seven pages to find the one coin. But wait you say! There is the keyword feature. I should be able to get into the drop down menu and go to Washington quarters, then type in SMS and PRESTO, here is my one SMS Washington quarter. But wait, I did that and another seven pages of all Washington quarters pops up! WHY? I dont want to see all those other quarters. Why does the keyword feature not work? I like Heritage, I still use them quite a bit, but now I have to work at it a lot harder. Maybe someone here can go on their computer and figure out what I am doing wrong. If so please let me know. I guess if you buy hundreds of coins at one sitting and you want to bid on all the Washington quarters in their inventory, then this new search engine may be of help to you. But it does not help me, it hinders me.
In an insane society, a sane person will appear to be insane.

Here's your answer.
Instead of "keying in" SMS in the search feature, which you already did supposedly by clicking SMS (1), scroll down and view the column on the left which has every quarter in the 7 pages itemized.
Under Coin Finish, "click" on SMS (1).
You'll get your single listing.
Say you only want to look at what Washingtons are being offered in MS64? simply click on the MS64 (5) in the left column and you'll get a display of only the MS64 coins being offered. (Noting that MS64 (5) has been removed from the left column since the program is displaying what you searched for.)
It's actually quite simply if you remember that the primary "All Items" screen selection will take you into a sub'search for ALL coins within the "Type" of coin you're searching. (i.e. Washington Quarters). Then you refine your search further with the left column.
For the OLD search feature, selecting SMS (1) from the "drop down" box took you directly to the single SMS Washington being offered which is simpler but then it doesn;t show you all the Washington Quarter possibilities being offered. This, IMO, is a convenience for the "consignors" who might prefer that you ate least see what other Washingtons are being offered.
Both search tools have their pluses and minuses but since they ARE switching to support only the new feature, you might as well get used to the new techniques involved which amounts to 1 (one) additional click of the mouse.

<< <i>Why is it in the business that I am in I believe I need to satisfy my customers in order to keep them. I ask them what they want from me and I make my best effort to givr it to them. >>
Maybe that's what Heritage believes they're doing. Do you really think they're intentionally trying to make things harder for their customers?
<< <i>Since you asked, I believe by keeping the two options they would be listening and satisfying all thier customers. I am a HEAVY user, trust me with this, I use it more than most folks with my research. >>
Do you suppose there might be a reason they consider that option (keeping both) to be impractical?
<< <i>In the end they will do what they are going to do and that will be that. >>
True, but IF at the end of the day a cumbersome interface actually drives business AWAY from their site (and has a quantifiable impact on their bottom line), they'll wish they had listened to their customers better.
The "listening to customers" axiom transcends Heritage and is germane to nearly all "businesses for profit" outside of a monopolies.
I'm NOT making a judgement either way on the new user experience at their website, but maybe in this case Heritage simply needs to provide better education on the use of their new interface?

There are two separate things here that we will be looking into. Using SMS as a keyword should work, at a minimum.

I am not sure if what I do not like now is related to the new search, but it is something else that I find annoying and unacceptable
it is the page load time - it should not take 30 seconds to 1 minute for the next page to load for each step of the search
if eBay had that slow of loading time, they would not be near as successful as they are
I can go to Teletrade and do a search and find and view 5 examples of an item they have sold in under 5 minutes I just got done spending close to 15 minutes to see 2 at Heritage
not sure why they are the only website that I go to with that issue with the exception of Wells Fargo when they go to my account with https://
If it was my company I would tell the web designers to cut the time to load pages in half and when they got that done, I would have them cut the load time in half, and when they got that done I would tell them to cut the load time in half - then it would be acceptable
google can run a search of the entire world wide web in a couple seconds
I am not sure why it takes Heritage so long to search their archives (and link to all of their other divisions that are going to do anything in the next 6 months, and link stories about past sales, and link other pages in their site, and show stuff on every page that has nothing to do with my interest and seach).............
I have not done as much business with them as you REALONE, but I am starting my boycott of their website right now
let me know if they ever get the page load time back to reasonable
